Burner not recognized

I have VS11.5+ on my Quad Vista PC. It all goes well until I want to burn a disc(DVD). In the VS "Disc Burner" window under "Drive", it shows "no divice" and the "Disc type" shows "Empty" while my burner is loaded with a DVD-R. I have no problems with this drive in other applications (Nero, PMB...). Are my settings not OK?.
P.S.On my XP duo PC I have no problems with the same VS11.5+version.

I too have a Quad Vista Ultimate and am running VS11.5+. And my Quad refuses to see either of my burners when I am trying to burn a hybrid AVCHD disc on a standard DVD. So is that what you are trying to do as well? Or are you just trying to burn a standard definition DVD? The curious thing is that the Quad can see both drivers for that purpose. And my Core 2 Duo Vista Home Premium laptop will happily burn even the AVCHD hybrid discs using the same video input.
Unfortunately, I have not found a solution. I have done the obvious things such as disabling then enabling the drives, uninstalling the burner drivers, rebooting and let Vista detect the drives and reinstall the drivers etc. But nothing has so far worked.

Thanks Ken. I just wanted to create a standard PAL DVD from some AVCHD footage (mts2) imported from my Sony SR11. This seems to be a VS11 bug related to Quad processors... Hopefully Corel "is watching us"

Well, it may indeed be Quad related, but the other common factor here between you and I is the fact that we are using AVCHD.
Are you first converting your AVCHD to standard definition mpeg-2 (Share > Create Video File > DVD) and using that new mpeg-2 in the burning module to produce your SD DVD? Or are you (not recommended) inserting your AVCHD files in the burning module, and letting the conversion to mpeg-2 take place in the burning process? *That* is where I think the problem arises...

I tried both possibilities. Neither of them detects my burner. Maybe other forum members using Quad PC's are willing to check and report about this problem. Final result today, is that VS11.5 is useless for Quad PC users with AVCHD footage to create an SD DVD...

Hi Ken, I informed Corel support and this is what they answered

Dear Mr/ Ms de clercq
Thank you very much for your e-mail.
Could you please try to disable other burning programs when using VideoStudio ans check if your burner will be detected? If still unsuccessful, please try to uninstall the burning softwares one by one and restart your computer then try using VideoStudio. Also, please try to disable the ones that came with the operating system.
Also, could you please provide us with the following:
- operating system version
- RAM
- free disk space
- video adapter
- make and model
Please do not hesitate to contact us for any further questions.
Kind regards,
Edgar
Corel Customer Support
I already disabled some programs to startup (msconfig). No succes...Some progs came bundled with Vista (Nero..), so I can't uninstall them unless I reinstall the whole OS if I want them back. Maybe you are more lucky.

Nero certainly does NOT come as part of Vista. It may have been installed as part of the package supplied by the company that sold you the computer. But it is a completely separate commercial program from a German source!! And the only aspect of Nero which causes problems re burners is InCD. Check your Control Panel > Add/Remove Software to see if that is listed. If installed as part of the Nero package, it nonetheless will have a separate entry there. Nero itself has recognised the possibility of InCD cutting off access to the burner and since VS7 no longer have it installed by default. However, earlier versions of Nero, and that includes Nero Express packages which come with hardware such as burners, often include it and install it by default. You can, however, uninstall InCD without uninstalling the whole Nero package. And certainly without uninstalling Windows!
The rest of the method suggested by Corel, though, is tedious, but possibly effective.

Hi Ken. My problem is gone. After some more communication with Corel Support it turned out that I had also Ulead CD and DVD PictureShow4 (installed first) on my Vista. Apparently the first program prevented the Ulead burning helper (under the services) to be installed with the VS11 installation. I uninstalled them both, as they suggested, and reinstalled them again, starting with VS11, and the burner was there...Do you happen to have other Ulead programs installed before VS11 on your Vista?

No. VS was the first Ulead install. Moreover, as I said, my problem was different since VS can see the burner for all other burnings except AVCHD hybrid discs...
But glad your issue is resolved!
