"Convert step got some problems" error message (41

Post by david_k_jordan »

Greetings:
Upon trying to burn a disc to DVD (all default settings) I receive an error that says:

"Convert step got some problems" (4101)

I am not sure what would cause this issue...I tried to uncheck the burn to disc and just create an ISO image and just a DVD folder...but the same error occurred, which tells me that it is not the burn to DVD.
My hope is someone knows why this is happening and can help me with it...any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Dave Jordan

Dave,
You should not be "Converting Videos" in the Burn phase of the project. Follow the Recommended Procedure in the top post. All conversions should be done in the Create Video File phase, which also converts to Mpeg2 (if you have captured, edited AVI).

I tried using the wizard as well...all default settings...this should allow for you to easily choose images and add them to the project and then create a DVD disc from that. That is what I chose to do...and I received the same error as listed above.
I used to use VS 8 all the time...and this was never a problem...I am creating the movies in the same way...and it fails in VS 9. I usually use the VS creator, which allows me to use the timeline for audio and overlays etc., but I wanted to use the Wizard to see if I would get the same error...and I did.
The wizard should do pretty much everything for you...you just make a few selections...and your supposed to be in busines...but not so here. Any extra input here would be appreciated.

are you using any .mp3 audio tracks?

what different types of input files are you using? (video and audio)?

David,
I thought the "Wizard" was quite brain damaged in VS8. I have not used it in VS9.

I would never recommend trusting Video Studio to set properties "properly." The default property settings have always been a train wreck and IMHO, are responsible for the great majority of problems that new users have with video editing.

VS9 still has bugs that appear when users try to convert videos in the burn module. Make your video file first (and do your conversions here) and you will be a happy camper.

Follow up: You would not be getting a "Convert step got some problems" (4101) error if you were not converting. Therefore you ARE converting.

I can only conclude that you did not MANUALLY set the BURN properties to exactly match the Video File properties. Try it again.

OK...so here are the steps I follow...I open VS 9 (just like I used to in VS 8) and I will choose to use the wizard...I will select many digital camera images...select the template to use...and try to create the disc...nothing more...and I get this error.
John I am saying that yes, I amy be converting at some point...I have never argued that...and I HAVE followed those directions to a tee..that are listed at the top of the forum...I have also watched the tutorial videos...AND I have extensively used VS 8, this was never an issue with VS 8. So I know that I am doing it the intended way.
As for MP3's...the answer is no, I am using canned VS 9 sounds that come with the wizard. I wanted to test this, to get this to work, so I just tried to create a quick presentation with some still images with templates etc (all that come from the wizard).
I am hoping someone can further suggest some ideas, more than just "read the top posting from the forum"...because I have...and I have followed it...and it still does not work.

Thank you,

Error messages 4101

Post by coldicote »

I had this problem exactly as well. I went back and put everything in the timeline and when finished went to share, and created video file first, then went back to Create A Disk and it all worked. If I didn't create video file first (in this case I chose PAL DVD) I got exactly the same error message.

Try that and see if it works

I have the same error. I did Lyn's suggestion of creating a vidoe file and it sill does note work. The video file process ends with an error stating that it cannot read the audio file but it does this after compiling the video for the NTSC DVD4:3 format. When you save as a .wmv file for the smartpone i can save the file. The problem is around the format?

there is something in your project that cannot be converted...obviously. you said you were adding pictures, jpg's have header data that can be corrupt or unreadable causing problems when converting, same goes for title overlays on top of video. try taking the pics or titling out the project. also, like already suggested, make a video file first, before burning to disc.

I am going to resurrect this one because I don't see that it has a solution, and I am starting to get the same error. Maybe in a month someone has seen something new. I started getting the 4101 error last night on a new project. The only things in the project are MPEG2 clips and two titles. I have tried with the stock menu templates and with my JPG file as the background, both with and without music for the menus. Each time, within 7 seconds of running the burn process, it dies with the 4101 error message.

One thing I did do, that I thought was odd, I took an existing project, that I burned last week. Changed nothing in it, duplicated what I had done on the menus and went to burn it. This time it took 57 seconds, but I still got the 4101 error. I know that project is good and the clips are good, based on the DVD I have sitting on the shelf. So this is something new and not very fun.

I am very consistent, boring, on the discs I am creating. So this is something that has crept into the mix just this week.

I am not willing to burn the whole project to a single MPEG2 file and then try the burn. I did not buy the software to have to get out my notepad and do everything manually.

This one is frustrating considering the consistency of the projects I am working on.

Any help out there is appreciated.
