Multi Clip Feature: Does it actually Clip?

Post by meegwell »

Hello All,

When using the multi clip (i think that is what its called) - i.e. I take a long clip and chop it up with the start/stop markers to just the sections I want - does VS (11 plus) actually chop up that clip into the smaller sections I designated?

It appears as if it doesn't and I want to be able to do that to trim down large clips to just the sections I want to keep - with the end result being multiple physical clips saved and the ability to discard the rest? Is there another approach to this?

On a similar note, are the sections of clips I put on the storyboard saved as a clip? If I delete the original clip, will that project now be screwed up?

I guess I'm a little confused about logistics of the raw footage here. I am trying to be a bit more efficient and do a section of a project, basically save all relevant footage (i.e. footage that is on the storyboard), delete the unused footage and then load more raw footage to continue on.

hope this is sort of clear.....:)

I am not sure about Multi Trim, as I don't use it, but when you cut a clip it is a virtual cut. The original clip remains uncut.

What I do is cut a clip then go to Clip>Save Trimmed Video. That will save a new copy of your cut clip. Again, the original clip will remain uncut. If you want to use the newly cut & saved clip in your project you then could delete the original (but I always wait until I am finished with the project, just in case  ).
