ChromaKey backgrounds

Post by shoalhaven »

Some friends are using artists posterboard, green and blue.

I am using Kelley green felt material from a yardage store, total cost, $12 to $14 dollars. You will need both colors, depending on your background clips.

Adequate lighting is most important, you do not want any shadows.

I have found that the color settings Ulead provides (for approximation) are hardly ever the same. Different clip backgrounds require different settings. To a large degree, it seems to be a hit or miss proposition. degree.

I am attending a chromakey workshop in a couple of weeks, and I hope to come out smarter than when I go in.

Thanks shoalhaven for your reply and good luck with the workshop, I only need the chroma key for odd shots, like putting a quick glimpse of the grandchildren in dinosaur clips etc. just for a bit of fun. Bri

Hi, Shoalhaven,
I hope you come out smarter, too. Please share with us anything you can after the workshop.

Thanks...

economical light green available for chroma key scenes for $20. It is on sale at Target as "Casual Home" Cabana Rio Collection-queen sheet set 100% cotton, includes a sheet, fitted sheet, and pillow cases. I tried it as a back drop, and found success in clicking on the overlay box "apply overlay" then clicking on box " similarity" which opens up a color chart entitled "Ulead Color Picker", I selected the second row from the bottom, the third color "light green" from the right side of said box. Then adjusted the similarity to 20% to 35 % depending on the lighting and background color i wanted to blend into. So..there are some economical back drops out there in fabric stores or Target stores selling that particluar shade of green "Cabana Rio Collection" You can use the pillow cases to put them over the head of the actors so they appear as headless bodies or wrap the fitted sheet around the actor with the other sheet in the background to create a floating talking head...Hey for only $20 bucks you can have lots of fun creating funny effects
