What does VS10 install that VS11 doesn't.
Capture Plug-ins. In v10 if you go to Tools>Change Capture Plug-in you will find numerous plug-ins. I show six. If you check the same in v11 or v12 you will find one. The theory is because it is compatible with Vista. :?

Hi Black Lab..:)
I agree with you about the plug-ins. But even after I installed VS10 and am now able to capture DV with firewire in VS11.5, there is still only one capture add-in in capture list.

I think DV/Firewire is a capability built into Video Studio and the plug-ins are for third party analogue capture devices. (IMO)

Whatever driver/codec is installed by VS10 that was not installed with my install of VS11.5 to a "Clean Machine", should be made available by Corel via a seperate patch or update and included with later versions of VS.

There are so many people having this problem but Corel do not seem to be taking it seriously. :x

Sorry to disappoint you, but as far as I am aware, DV and the DV/Firewire codec and filter are part of Windows and not installed by Video Studio in any version of it. Video Studio uses what is already there as part of Windows, and uses the same codec and driver that Windows Movie Maker does. It is really because of WMM that firewire/DV is there...

That being said, I don't know what is wrong in your case or why installing VS10 rectified things for you. VS11+/11.5+ and VS 12 all work fine with DV and Firewire on my Vista Ultimate machine, and that was before I installed my old VS10+ for a completely different reason (exporting HDV back to camera). There is still a problem with VS11/11.5+ and 12 with Firewire captures from certain analogue sources, and that is definitely attributable to Corel's change of the capture plug-in to the single one used in VS11 and subsequent versions.

But Firewire capture from a mini DV camera should work with the Windows DV codec and Firewire driver...

Cannot Start The Capture Graph...Okay Now

I had the same problem until connected my DV cord to my Firewire Input.

I think the faster connection is what it needs.

Works like a charm now!

Sorry, but what in hell did you have it connected to before since a DV cable will only connecte to a Firewire port...???

My son has recently come across this same problem. He was using an Ezi capture device and has since purchased a Dazzle Platinum but as soon as he goes to capture he gets "Cannot Start The Capture Graph"
Because i have been using Corel Studio 12 pro X2 for so long now he asked me as to what the problem is but i have not been able as yet to figure out what is going on here. So i saw this post while searching for answers and wonder if anyone out there knows what is going on and how he can sort it out.
Any help please or if i find an answer i will naturally put the fix up here. :?:

If your son is trying to capture using a combination of the Dazzle and Video Studio, it just won't work. Generally, we tell people always to use the software which came with the capture device to capture and then, if they want, to open the captured files in Video Studio for editing. Well this advice applies ten times over to the Dazzle, and to Pinnacle which makes them. Pinnacle is notorious for locking capture from their devices to their own software. Other software will simply not work with the device during the capture stage. So whether he likes it or not, your son needs to capture using the Studio HD software which came with the Dazzle, and then once it is captured he can edit in Video Studio if that is what he wants to do.
