Question about multiple video capabilities and audio sync

Post by CJWright »

I have shot a concert with two MiniDV camcorders, plus a separate stereo recording of the group...plus perhaps stills. And I want to combine these, cross dissolving between the video clips and still images...and not have the whole project get out of sync.

I have iMovie, which will do not do multiple video tracks (but is pretty good about mixing audio tracks).

Will VideoStudio 11 (or 12) do this?
When I try to fake it with iMovie, I cannot even bring in the alternative image or video, without the audio and video get out of sync at those incoming and outgoing transitions.

So...what problems might I run in to here? I will probably do just one song at a time...for YouTube upload and probably better version on the group's website.

I checked the specs, and believe I have enough oompf to do this. 1 gig ram, WinXP sp2. Can load the MB with another 3 gigs.

Is the multiple video tracks I see on the screen shots...those seem to be for dropping a separate boxed video into the main track. Is that correct? I all the samples I've seen posted using VideoStudio, that seems to be the only use of dual videos...outside of some green screen.

You mean like a picture-in-picture effect? Overlay tracks can be used for that, but you can also make the video fill the screen (Preferences), so you can put multiple camera shots in other tracks.

will check out that link when I have some time, and maybe download the demo...then maybe I'll get it. If the sync to sep sound track is off, won't work for concert footage. Whole screen is what I want probably (though insert is nice for variety). Especially need whole screen to cover over sloppy pans and zooms. Will let you know how it goes. Thanks Again.
