edit with timeline view

Post by jmark »

Hello, Thanks for the use of the forum. I'm new to Video Studio, having just loaded 11 +. I migrated from Pinnacle because of the Corel name, and some features I've grown into. My main purpose for VS is private production of slideshows, with inserted video, of the family to burn on DVD for prosterity. Nothing fancy.

One question I have is the limited view of the project being authored using the timeline view. Is the single timeline the only view that is offered in VS11? With Pinnacle you could preview multiple timelines on one editing screen, which make it easy to move clips and pictures around during the authoring stage.

Also an observation. If you change the name of this forum to Pinnacle I couldn¡¦t tell the difference. The statements, questions and complants are about the same. It makes me wonder if I want to go through the learning curve of VS or switch back to familiar software.

Thanks in advance.

I don't use v11 (I use v10+), but I can see the main time line, the overlay track, the title track, and the audio tracks. If I remember correctly with v11 you could even expand it to show more overlay tracks.

The manual is available here: http://ftp.ulead.com/pub/Manual/uvs11/vstudio11_e.pdf

Hi Mark

You can expand the ¡¥storyboard view¡¦ to show more thumbnails.

Select the highlighted button (enlarge)

This view allows you to see more clips and should make it easier to move clips and pictures around

Can we also assume you know how to access the timeline, as opposed to the storyboard (which is what Trevor's images show)? Just in case, you access the different views using the three icons directly above the highlighted pink square in the first photo. The default view is the storyboard view. The next icon along opens the timeline view and the third gives the Audio view.

With the timeline view, moreover, if you want have a frame by frame view, then in File > Preferences, select "Thumbnail only".

I'll also add that VS11+ does have the capability of expanded the timeline view similar to that of the storyboard..

Wow!! Thank you Ken and Videoman, you've all been very helpful. With these video editing software I learned to never assume anything and always accept advice from others. Thank you guys.

Now i'll look around the forum and see what the 550 error message is my daughter recieved when trying to burn her first sample DVD. Thank you all much for the help. I my be back.

Here's and open question. For my next computer build any suggestions on processors. A dual core Intel or AMD? The machine will be dedicated to video production.
