Thanks Corel. We were hoping for updates and look at what we got. The mods can lock or delete this, but that won't stop the anger. I cant be the only outraged customer.

I'm pretty sure you are not... I'm not overly impressed either.

I've been biting my tongue till it bleeds for about a month over this, but now that the new Website is up and the news is out, it would seem okay to discuss the matter.

First, a little history: I've been using Ulead and Corel products for years. I coauthored one of the many CorelDRAW official guides, and the only PhotoImpact official guide. "PhotoImpact 7: The Official Guide" was my idea, although I eventually sold it to McGraw-Hill when we couldn't agree on a price for my work. I came back on board later in the project, to write the chapters on animation from within PhotoImpact, and the two chapters on GIF Animator. I also maintained the original PhotoImpact Wish List, this was somewhere around 1997 to 2000.

Corel's decision to completely abandon powerful tools like GIF Animator, Smart Saver, and the rest of the Web Utilities line, is simply unacceptable. GIF Animator and Smart Saver could be updated to new versions at very little cost. And even if they were to choose not to upgrade, removing the existing versions from the site is a slap in the face for those of us that have supported the products for so long.

Okay, I'll go out on a limb here...

For myself, I've been a rabid GIF Animator 5 user and fan for several years. Corel's decision to drop it is... absolutely stupid.

I don't plan on purchasing anything from Corel in the future until they grab a brain and use it. Keep Ulead GIF Animator alive!

One of many thing that comes to mind is: PhotoImpact and Cool 3D Studio are still being sold (although my guess is that this may change when Windows 7 is released). So, when you create an animation in PhotoImpact or Cool 3D, how exactly are you supposed to fine tune it and optimize it without GIF Animator?

Corel would seem to prefer to let other companies sell Vista-compatible GIF animation software. And there are a few out there that will be getting $30 a pop from selling it, NOT Corel.

Ya snooze, ya lose, Corel...
