convert 2 AVI files (format 4:3 / 16:9) to 1 DVD format

Post by requestor12 »

Hi,

Who can help?

I am using Videostudio 11.5 plus and shot with my camera a movie both in 4:3 format and in 16:9 format. I read the tips/articles how to convert the format from 16:9 to 4:3 and vica versa but decided to leave the formats unchanged.

After editing the movies in Videostudio I created two separate AVI files. With Nero Vision I converted the AVI formats to a DVD-format (incl. menu) maintaining the correct ratio (4:3 / 16:9). This is working fine and the TV automatically recognizes the correct format so I have no distortion.

I cannot imagine that Videostudio cannot do the same and I am annoyed to make use of seperate program (Nero Vision).

So, how can this be done with Videostudio?

regards, requestor

Hi

You can use the distort function (under the Attributes Tab) or the overlay tracks to resize the window.

Read my guide 16:9 A look at Widescreen, may help.

You may be best applying this to the Avi files, then render to mpeg.

Hi Trevor,

Thanks for your quick response! I did not make myself clear enough. I did read your quick guide and I was already familiar with the distort function under the attributes tab or the overlay tracks. Even though I decided not to make use of the distort function because it is a lot of work to resize the window, besides information is lost. I am happy to have two separate projects both in 4:3 and 16:9 format and make to separate avi-files.
My question is how can I convert the two separate avi-files (both in a different format) and combine these on one DVD (DVD format) and still maintain the original format... With Nero Vision this is quite straightforward, I wonder how to do this with Videostudio?

Oh sorry for that I understand now, I think.

You want one DVD having two titles one 4:3 and one 16:9
I have never done this but cannot see any reason why it should not work.

Time for a test, I took two Mpeg 2 files one 4:3 and one 16:9.
All other properties were the same.

Start a new project Share Create Disc
Add video files.
Created the menu (used thumbnails)
Selected ¡¦Continue to play next clip¡¦ from the navigation control¡¦
Burn the disc

The disc burned successfully and seems to work ok when played back on PC using Power DVD, Both aspects were there, but the TV display was a different matter, I couldn¡¦t keep the aspects correct without using the zoom options, and this lost some of the frame. Not all TV¡¦s or players control their aspect in the same manner, your set up may work. For some reason I cannot set ¡¥Auto¡¦ for my aspects when using the DVD player.

So I tried Nero to burn the dvd.
No problems, viewed both aspects on the TV just fine.

Video Studio is not know for its DVD authoring power, although I do not have VS 11, I cannot see it being an improvement, maybe Movie Factory is the way to go if your wanting to use corel software.

But whatever you use you have to create a mpeg 2 in order to burn a DVD.

Thanks for testing. I indeed want to have one DVD having two titles one 4:3 and one 16:9.

Now I am confused ;-) I tried to repeat your tests, maybe my set up may work as you already stated.

You mentioned: (1) Start a new project Share Create Disc, (2) Add video files.

I read the manual and checked the program again but I cannot find the mentioned option "Start a new project Share Create Disc". I tried VideoStudio Editor, the Movie Wizard and the DV-to DVD Wizard.

Maybe I still have to continue with Nero, although I'll try it with Movie Factory as well. It is a pity that VideoStudio cannot do the same as Nero Vision :?

The Manual doesn't mention this method.

Anyway, to start a New Project, simply choose File > New Project! This will clear the timeline in the Editor module of VS which is all that is required. Then, with a blank timeline, you select Share > Create Disc to open the burning module...
