I've not edited my DV footage for awhile so I don't know exactly when or what has caused the problem but I now get a "Unable to open file D:\uvs050419-002-2.AVI" - Catastrophic failure when I try to use "Open Video File" and add it to my library.
Other file types open just fine.....Any ideas?
Thanks
Nathan

Are you able to insert the video file directly into the timeline/storyboard? If so then try dragging it from the timeline to the Library and see if you still get that error.
Generally with that type of error, it comes from trying to import into the wrong type of Library (video file into the Image Library).

What exactly do you mean by 'catastrophic failure'? The program crashes? Your computer crashes?
Have your tried opening the file or files in question in Windows Movie Maker? If they won't open there, then that suggests something has corrupted the files.
Have you loaded a mega codec pack since last using your DV files? Those packs are poison if installed with every codec. They can be useful if you choose which codecs you are specifically after, but otherwise I avoid them. They contain every variety of codec, and are thrown together with an eye to quantity rather than quality, and no concern that some may conflict with others.

Ahhh - I'd captured these files originally with VS (an earlier version) and even have them in VSP's but now I get the following if I try to add the file

If I open the VSP I just get the black/white square and if I ask for the file info VS11_ says the "content of the file is unreadable".
FYI - I can open and play the files just fine in other players and as you can see above they have been thumbnailed just fine as well.
Thanks
Nathan

Ken, Thanks for the hint on the filters. Looks like VideoStudio and Haali Media Splitter don't like each other much (at least on my system)!
Got it back and working with Ulead, my prefred DirectShow player (JR Media Center) but now MS Windows Media Player just crashes if I try to play a DV file....which I can live with for now!
