HV20 on playstation 3

Post by kitzj00 »

I have a hv20 and currently render my footage as hd mpeg. I would like to create a BluRay disk of this footage to play back on my PS3 on dvd-r. Is it possible with DVD movie factory to do this? Currently I use Ulead VideoStudio 11.5 plus and when I select create disk and choose Bluray I render the folders to hard drive (asks for bluray disk, and I haven't received my BluRay burner yet) and burn this with imgburn to dvd-r. However, this only plays as a data disk in the ps3.

The problem may be that the ps3 does not play bdmv disks because they Sony is afraid of people copying games. I have read on the internet that when authoring as I have described the transport stream video is marked as being copy protected. Also, I have read that some authoring programs (roxio) are able to mark the BDMV folders as not having copy protected video and thus can burn footage with menus as BDMV which play in the ps3.

My questions are:

1. Can moviefactory burn bluray to dvd-r (videostudio asks for bluray disk)
2. Will these be playable on the ps3?

I would try the trial, but I have already tried the trial and for what I was doing at the time, I was able to use Videostudio 11.5 to fuflfill my needs.

Thanks!

Question 1. Can moviefactory burn bluray to dvd-r (videostudio asks for bluray disk)
Answer No, not directly, there is a method you can use if you own the Retail version of MovieFactory 6 Plus. But it's really not worth it because most of the players on the market will not playback a BDMV disk structure burnt to standard dvd. When you do make one then you can playback the videos in file mode by navigating to the STREAMS folder on the dvd. Might as well just burn a data dvd (my opinion)

Question 2. Will these be playable on the ps3?
Answer No, the PS3 will not playback a BDMV directory structure burn to DVD similar to standard dvd navigation, but you can still playback the videos in file mode by navigating to the streams folder.

When or if you do make a dvd as posted above the dvd must spin at 3X speed. I've heard that some Blu-Ray players will play them back.

What you want to make are AVCHD disks. The PS3 will play them back without any problems at all.
Your HD_mpeg2 videos will be converted to the AVC/H264 AVCHD compliant disk. The PS3 will playback these high definition disks same as a standard dvd.
What I suggest to do is make AVCHD disks. AVCHD disks are burnt to Standard DVD's and contain the High Definition Video Files in AVC/H264 format (along with Dolyby 5.1 audio).

Search on etech6355 for my instructions for file settings & exports etc from months back. I've have previously posted instructions on how to properly convert your HV20 High Def mpeg2 video files to AVC/H264 & burn an AVCHD disk that will playback in the PS3 and all Blu-Ray disk players that support the AVCHD disk, (panasonic/pioneer/sony)

There is one drawback with putting High Definition video in mpeg2 format at 25,000kbs. You must use good dvd's, they have to spin at 3X normal speed and you cannot get that much video on one dvd, only about 20 minutes maximum at 25MBS.

Hope this helps,
