Application doesn't start properly

Post by mantolov »

I got DVD MovieFactory 3 SE with a DVD Burner I bought. I installed it on an XP machine, but when I strat up the application, I just get a Window and not much else. "DVD MovieFactory 3 SE" is near the top and there is a button on the lower left side that gives a menu of choices, but none of them do anything. There is a close button on the bottom right which does work (not very useful).

I did the patch, but it didn't change anything.

You need to provide us with more info... such as you hardware/software configuration and your initial installation procedure you used to install MF3?

Just to let you know, that I also got my version bundle with my purchased of a DVD burner and by following the installation instructions did successfully installed!

Subsequently, I downloaded the latest updates from ULEAD MovieFactory 3 SE build ID: 300P01 including Burner DLL updates and got better performance from the product!

Just go to the ULEAD site dowload section for MF3 and follow there instructions - you may have to completely remove you current version and re-install it before applying these updates?

I hope this is helpful! 8)

The machine is a 3.2GHz P4 HT + 1GB RAM and 2 x 160GB and 80GB drives. The optical drives are a Samsung CDRW/DVD Rom Combo and a Pioneer DVD RW burner (MovieFactory came with the Pioneer). The system is XP SP2. I can't list all the other stuff I have (too much I'm afraid). There is plenty of free space in case you wondering.

I installed it ages ago, but it didn't work. I tried again a couple of days ago. I have uninstalled and reinstalled via the installation disk, but no change. I just downloaded the trial version 4 which seems to work fine.

I've lived without it up to now, so I guess I can forget about it and use Windows MovieMaker...

Thanks,
Michael

Michael,

Depending on the uninstall procedure that you have performed, you may want to review some other posts on installation issues for MF3; if you do a search for “300P01” on this forum you will find various topics that may be similar to yours  One of them is "MF3DC Can't make a DVD now"

In some of them there are instructions procedures from ULEAD on how to perform a clean uninstall to clean your system prior to do a re-install! I would re-install the version that came with your burner and apply the patches, since you can't apply the updates to the trial version...

Correction --> MF3 was bundled with my Hauppauge WinTV PVR USB2 not DVD burner (still a bundle version SE)

I hope this is helpful! 8)

Thanks for that info. Everything was fine until I tried to delete the Registry entry (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE:Software:Ulead Systems:Ulead DVD MovieFactory:3.0). I managed to delete everything except for the key labelled VIO (get an error trying to open it "Error opening key", and so it can't be deleted). This probably explains why the previous reinstall didn't help. I tried to repair the Registry with Registry Mechanic 4.0 and TuneUp Utilities 2004. They both made lots of repairs, but didn't fix the problem with this particular key.

Any suggestions for this one....

Thanks,
Michael

Well, it took a lot of fiddling, but I managed to delete the key and finally reinstall. It seems to be working now. :D

I had to go into Safe Mode as Administrator (rather than the account that has normal administrator privleges), and even then it wouldn't work until I managed to change the permissions of the lowest key (I had tried a number of times, but finally it just worked, I can't explain nor repeat it I'm afraid).

Thanks,
Michael
