Response to MSP being discontinued

Post by skyml »

I guess I won't take this lying down. The following is a response I made to an email regarding Video Studio Pro....

"From the posts I read it appears that VS Pro is only a wet dream.... or a tease of sorts and may never be.

This all smells of something akin to me knowing there are airplanes that fly, have flown airplanes and know what makes a good one or bad one and then being told there will be no more real airplanes but will sell you this wagon and we'll put wings on it so it looks like it can fly and you can pretend that it is as good as the real thing.

MSP is a great editing platform that gave it's users the tools and options to do with video what few or no other programs have. And it was pretty easy to learn and use and had so much growth potential and everything under the sun in one package. And it had the support of other low cost programs that made it even better without the nightmare of "plug-in's" that other programs suffer.

Why revert to something less when they have the prefect platform to move forward with and a dedicated user base with potential customer growth to build on?

Changes in video formats and operating systems and even hardware is no excuss for killing MSP. The market and need is definatley there and being ignored and toyed with. With the changes in available fuel and the crashing oil market and environmental issues do you think car manufactors will stop making descent high end alternatives or switch to selling people bicycles?!

Both old and a whole slew of new editors are crying for the continuation and improvements of MSP and we all suffer the low grade and weak promise of Video Studio Pro. To kill MSP and offer a potential alternative that seems to take it's roots from an already inferior product is just not promising.

I make skydiving and adventure videos for a living most of the time and have been doing this for nearly 11 years. Most of my work is linear with standard Def video onto DVD in real-time so customers don't have to wait and we produce an impressive quality product that sells what we do for people. I supplement what I do with deluxe services and special projects (some commercials, advertising clips, training videos and misc entertainment or documentary stuff related to skydiving and other adventure activities). These I do non-linear using Mediastudio Pro and DVD Workshop (on occasion I also use Photo Impact and Cool3D Production Studio). What a complement of products! With the quality and power of the tools I have used, people walk away overly impressed with their purchase and have come to expect this level of standard.

Now we are moving into the world of HD and at present I see no cost affordable linear editing options and now I am loosing my only viable non-linear editing option. Video Studio Pro is a false dream and if it ever comes to market it will be compared to MSP and found wanting am sure!

I've looked at and used other options. Vegas, Avid, Premier, Edius.... they just never got it. All powerful in their own way but none as intuitive or as easy to learn and always lacking in something or too complicated in the way they work in others.

The loss of MSP is truly a dark day for us all! If my beautiful and capable wife were to die I doubt her ugly and less capable sister would make a difference (figure of speech here sweetheart).

VS Pro? I don't see it."

You are entitled to your opinion and to publish it.

We all regret the demise of MSP but we all have to move on as best we can. I don't know much about VSPro, but I do understand it is on its way. It is wrong to prejudge it as being inadequate: neither you nor I know what it holds in store.

There is no use crying over the milk that was spilt two years ago. We have to move on in whichever direction suits each individual best. I don't want a thread on this board of mourning over the deceased or even a wake. For this reason I'm locking this thread: your opinion is still expressed. Any further such threads will also be locked (or even deleted), so please don't start them.
