Also during installation received ¡§the installation of Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 redistributable SP1 package appears to have failed¡¨ error.

The 'side by side configuration' error message is a totally new one to me. The only thing I can think of is to wonder whether you had installed the try-before-you-buy version beforehand and did not totally uninstall it before installing the purchased package?

First, I would uninstall what has been installed. Then I would go to the Microsoft DirectX website and download the latest update for that, dated June 2008. Note that it updates both Direct X 9.0c (XP) and 10 (Vista). It may just possibly help with the Visual C++ business.

Please also have a look at this thread and see if anything there helps: http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... 887#153887 I had intended to suggest trying to install as Administrator even though you might already be the only Administrator on your computer. But Vista seems a bit funny about that.

Regarding the numbering of the versions, hopefully you did not just receive VS11 but VS11+. It is the +/PLUS version which is upgradeable. To get this, once VS11+ is installed correctly, you go to the Ulead.com site, click on the Download button along the top, then select Update Packs and follow the prompts to VS11 Updates. There are three. Theoretically, the one at the top -- the so called Hot Fix -- is only supposed to deal with the single described instance of installation failure, which you don't have since your problem appears to be with Visual C++, rather than the AVControl SDK. But it could be worth a try in this case. Note that you install the Hot Fix before you try reinstalling VS.

If you actually get past the error messages and have VS11+ properly installed, you then download and install the remaining two updates -- first the 6 November 2007 update patch, then the 8 November Power Pack. You will then have VS11.5+. And if you click on the ? symbol in the top right of screen, and select About VS, you should have version 11.5.0157.2.

I purchased the product advertized as ¡§Ulead VideoStudio 11.5 Plus (amazon.com exclusive)¡¨, but received ¡§Ulead VideoStudio 11.0¡¨ disguised as ¡§11.5 Plus¡¨ version. The box that arrived is for ¡§11.5 Plus¡¨ version, but installation CDs inside are with ¡§11.0¡¨ version. The small book says ¡§VideoStudio 11¡¨
I do have DirectX 10. I did not have any try-before-you-buy VS versions on this computer.
Will I get the same product if I purchase directly from Ulead/Corel website (version 11, and will have to get ¡§11.5 Plus¡¨ through downloaded upgrades)?

Honestly, I don't know. None of us here work for Corel/Ulead so we have no hands-on knowledge. Moreover, I bought the download upgrade version of VS 11+ when it first came out, so had to follow the upgrade path to get to VS11.5+. But as far as I am aware, despite the advertising of a boxed version of VS11.5+ such as you have bought, it will still only contain VS11+ and you still have follow the update patch and Power Pack route I have described. The only worrying thing (apart from your basic problem of even installing the first level) is that you say your discs only say VS11 with no reference to +/PLUS. As I said, only the PLUS version can be upgraded to VS11.5+, not the vanilla version 11.

That being said, there are even anomalies here since even after upgrading to VS11.5+, the splash screen still only shows VS11 PLUS. And the screen after that is headed simply Video Studio 11 with no PLUS!

A footnote on Direct X: I know you have version 10 -- that is installed as part of Vista which will not work with earlier versions. But the June 2008 update for it will add various things to your existing version 10. It doesn't change the version 10 number, but adds different release numbers to it. And DirectX is not part of the automatic Windows updates. You have to personally go to the website to get the updates yourself. So if you have not done that since getting the computer, you probably have the original, non-updated version of DirectX 10.

Thank you Ken for trying to help me.

I spoke to both Microsoft and Corel/Ulead. I posted my experience and thoughts under separate post ¡§Read it if you consider VideoStudio 11.5 Plus and have Vista¡¨.

By the way, buying/downloading 11.5 Plus directly from Ulead still forces you through VS11.0-->VS11.5-->VS11.5 Plus journey. I was not charged for talking to Corel/Ulead tech support.
