Import the video into my hard disk using DVGate in .AVI form

Post by sjj1805 »

May I ask for your help?!

I recently purchased (downloaded) VS11.5+ and have been facing numerous challenges.

1. I tried capturing video from my camcorder (Sony DCR-HC38) into VS but was not successful. After few trials, I chose to import the video into my hard disk using DVGate in .AVI format.

2. Now I opened the VSEditor module and tried to "Insert Media files in to the timeline" from the hard disk location. At this time, what I see on the preview pane as well as on the timeline pane is a 'clutter of colors' and not the thumbnail of the first scene. When I 'Play' the file, It plays fine. When I stop, it again goes back to the 'clutter of colors'. When I move the jog slider, i am not able to see snapshots of the video at any point. All I can see is only what appears to be 'sprayed colors'.

Can you share your wisdom and help me with this, please?

Thank you
Kishore
Firstly a reminder:-
Private Messages and Emails to Forum Staff in fact you are lucky I opened this email because I am off to Scotland for a week soon and do not know if I shall be able to log onto the forum again before I set off.

I checked camcorderinfo.com and confirmed you have a Mini DV camcorder. To get the video from your camcorder into VideoStudio you must use an IEEE1394 firewire cable - Sony calls this cable an iLink cable. Do not use the supplied USB cable which is intended to enable your camcorder to be used as a web cam.

Nice to see forum member sektionschef providing a review of this camcorder on that site!

Kishore also emailed me, with the same response from me regarding Forum policy. He also said he posted separately to the Board 'several hours ago', but that post has not yet appeared.

Anyway, Kishore, in addition to Steve's comment about Firewire, you will of course need not only a firewire cable, but also a Firewire card in your computer or a firewire port in your motherboard. You will need to check that and can Google for photos so you will know what to look for.

But if you don't have one, the cards are cheap (here in Australia $20 or less) and usually come with the cable as well. They slot easily into a spare slot in your motherboard. Regarding the cable, make sure you get the correct one -- 4 pin for the camera end but (usually) 6 pin for the computer end.

I am not sure if I understood your point. Can you elaborate, please?

Gentlemen,

Thank you for the response.

I did use iLink cable to capture the video in to my computer. I am able to playback those files and or edit those same files using Windows Movie Maker without any problem.

What else could be the issue here?

Thanks
Kishore
