Frustrated with Corel 5.6 that came w/my Canon HG10

Post by dbirnbaum »

I'm so fit to be tied that I'm on the verge of returning the camcorder:

1. When I burned a DVD with my daughter's dance recital and misc, which contains 54 individual clips, when I play it back in my DVD player, as soon as it finishes playing a particular clip, instead of going to the next one and playing to the end of the last clip, it skips back to an earlier clip and plays from there. So, I can't even watch the DVD without hitting the forward button on the DVD player, and I have to make sure I do it before the clip's end or it will revert back to a much earlier clip, say 10 clips earlier. Please help!

2. No matter what I try, I cannot set up the menu to contain individual chapters within the single title (i.e, say, thumbnails). I've tried to follow the 'Authoring' directions I've been directed to, but to no avail. Maybe it's because they package the Canon HG10 with an abbreviated version of the software, I don't know.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Your assumption that the version of MovieFactory you have is not the full version is correct. In fact when I purchased a couple of laptop computers recently both came pre-installed with Vista and also MovieFactory 5 for Toshiba.

At first I was excited that Toshiba were providing this "free" software - even though I already own various versions of MovieFactory including 6+
I was however later appalled to discover that the "free" version was severely crippled. By this I refer to the fact that it did not support JPG images though it did support a number of other formats. When you stop and think about that for a moment - most if not all digital cameras sold record their pictures in JPG format.

The same may be true of your "free" copy that came with your Cannon camcorder. You might wish to download the 30 day free trial.
Let us set that aside for a moment and consider what else might be the problem with your attempt at creating a video.

1. Open MovieFactory Launcher and select New Video Project.
2. New Video Project | Video DVD
3. Click the gear icon to bring up a dialog box and select
[Click Playback - continue to play next clip]

Other limitations of the 'sawn off' version?

Post by William Fleming »

Are the following additional limitations of the version of InterVideo WinDVD SE which comes with the Canon HG10?
Maximum download file size is 2GB. If so how do I 'join up' files so that I can play larger files on my PC?
The fast forward, etc. buttons are greyed out when playing video files.

Will InterVideo Win DVD SE files play in other players such as Real Player and Windows Media Player? What file format does InterVideo Win DVD SE use to save video files?

What is 'rendering' and why does it take sooooo long?
