No, the new version of HFX (5.1) only works with Pinnacle's editors (Studio and Liquid Edition).
The older version (Gold 4.5) works with Ulead's MediaStudio Pro, but not with VideoStudio

OK this thread is a bit old but I am aware that a number of users have previously asked if they can use HollywoodFX with VideoStudio.

This was recently brought up again in this thread:
Hollywood FX transition effects in Ulead Videostudio

I am pleased to confirm that HollywoodFX version 4.5 CAN be used with VideoStudio and I have working copies in
VideoStudio 9 / 10 & 11.

More recent versions of Hollywood FX however do NOT work with Ulead products.

You will however require the appropriate plug in which I have made available for download here:

HollywoodFX for Ulead (5KB)

great news about hollywood FX - I've downloaded your plug in but haven't unzipped it yet. Can you offer any installation tips? My work around has been to make avi files in Pinnacle and import them into VS, but how amazing it would be to access them directly from VS.

thanks.

Obviously you need to own a copy of Holywood FX 4.5 and have it installed.

Now simply download the zip file I provided and inside the zip file are the various paths to some of the Ulead products it works with. Unzip the plug in accordingly.

hollywood gold fx

Post by Ilene »

GOOD news - finally had the time to unzip your file and copied the vfx plug-in that you suppllied into the ulead vfx folder - worked like a CHARM! Hooray! - thats the good news. It worked on my one computer that has VS10+. However my computer that I edit on most - has VS11, and when I copied the plug in to the vfx folder on that computer, it also seemed to work....EXCEPT that HFX gold seems to be looking for a KEYCODE to activate the product. It's kind of weird because Pinnacle Studio/Hollywood fx are already working independantly on this computer already. It's possible that I loaded it but never registered it. THe key code from my VS10+ computer doesn't work. I have the serial number of the software, the computer ID, and I'm missing this keycode. I know this is a ulead forum - but what a coup to get the hollywood fx transitions working in Ulead. I was told by pinnacle that I can't register this product on two machines. Just wondering if you had a suggestion to work around this. THe hollywood gold is working but the pinnacle watermark is present...so I obviously have to find a way to unlock this - or just go back to editing on my original computer.

thanks for the plug-in and any suggestions you might have....

HOORAY - I got it working....and it's GREAT! I had somehow mixed up the activation codes of my pinnacle and my hollywood fx.... I fianllly managed to type in the right combination of numbers to get an activation key. Worth the effort. Between the machine ID and the serial number it was kind of confusing.
Anyway, I highly recommend people trying to get their hands on this program - especailly if they are bored with the ulead effects. THey are so much better and highly customizable!

THANKS SO MUCH FOR POSTING THE PLUG IN on this site!

After reading this thread, I dug out a copy of FX I had and installed it under windows xp pro, logged on to the pinnacle site and registered etc. I then loaded the plug in into the correct folder for video studio 10.

Hollywood FX is version 4.5plus (and came with pinnacle studio 7), Hollywood opens and runs as a stand alone app. I have serial number, machine id and keycode entered correctly.

In VideoStudio 10, with the plug in, Hollywood FX gold is offered to me in the effects menu, I can drag to the timeline, but somethings not right, then I get the option to customise (small cogged wheel icon) the FX, the plugin tries to call (I assume) FX but I then get an alert ¡§unable to start licence tool programme¡¨ if I click OK (only option) Hollywood FX loads but it is a demo.

I feel there is just one step somewhere I have missed, any ideas out there please, it would be nice to get this working from within version 10.

All I did was to install Hollywood FX 4.5 with its normal installer which as you said creates a stand alone program. Enter the serial number, machine id and keycode when prompted (Been some time since I did this so cannot recall when these are asked for)
Then install the plug in I have provided above.
Start VideoStudio and use like any other transitions.
