VideoStudio 11.5 Plus - can't start program

Post by Cliffmg »

Previously used VS10 successfully. Bought new copy of VS11.5Plus. Uninstalled VS10. Installed VS11.5Plus. Double clicked on new desktop icon..... and nothing. Cannot get program to start. Tried via list of programs. Nothing. Unistalled. Reinstalled VS11.5Plus.... same result, nothing. Can any one help please?

According to your system profile you're running WinXP SP1. I think VS11+ requires WinXP SP2 at least. The current update for XP is SP3.
System Requirements (For general and Proxy HDV Editing)

* Intel® Pentium® 4 (equivalent) or higher recommended
* Microsoft® Windows® XP SP2 Home Edition/Professional, Windows® XP Media Center Edition, Windows® XP Professional x64 Edition, Windows Vista™
* 512 MB (1GB RAM or above recommended)
* 1 GB of available hard disk space for program installation
* Windows-compatible sound card (multi-channel sound card for surround sound support recommended)
* Windows-compatible CD-ROM for installation
Have you updated your DirectX drivers recently? The most recent is dated June 2008. They are not included with the regular Windows update. You can download it HERE. For some reason they seem to correct a myriad of problems..

VS11.5 Plus won't start

Post by Cliffmg »

Many thanks Ron. Sorry for not updating profile. I am on XP SP2. However, I am struggling with DirectX. I followed your link, downloaded the June 2008 runtime update. Ran setup, but afterwards I cannot find any trace of 'Microsoft DirectX' on my system. Am I missing the base program do you think? Sorry to be so dumb on this point.

Your version of Windows would not be working if it did not have DirectX. And the update doesn't remove anything; it merely updates what was there.

Run dxdiag and see what comes up.

VS11.5 Plus won't start

Post by Cliffmg »

Thanks Ken. dxdiag is very handy. Shows 9.0c loaded and reports 'no problems found' on all pages. So that confirms DirectX is present and working.

I'm assuming there is no problem caused by the program box saying I've bought VS11.5 Plus but home page says VS11 Plus? Booklet also says VS11 Plus. Whether it's 11Plus or 11.5Plus..... it should launch. Hmmm!

If you click on the ? symbol up in the top right of screen, then select About Video Studio, it should show version 11.5.0157.2. And yes, the splash screen etc, when you can get it to work, etc will all still show VS11+.

But frankly, I have no idea what could be causing your problem. Unfortunately, I have now forgotten the layout of XP (so soon!! :oops: ) and thus can't recall whether you can right click on the VS icon on the desktop and choose 'Run as Administrator'. You might already be logged on with Administrative rights, but sometimes this helps, particularly in Vista. (I had this just last night when I was trying to open Nero 8 Home. All other elements of the suite would open, but Home would time out and tell me to reinstall it. Tried that 3 times with no difference. Then clicked on 'Run as Administrator' even though I am the sole user and Administrator of this computer, and it worked!)

Cannot get beyond desktop icon so cannot click on '?' Have tried running past completed VS video projects and they now won't open. Looked in 'Add/Remove Program' list, this shows VS11.5 as 300+ Mb so the program content seems to have loaded..... it just won't launch.
