Does anybody use VS 11.5 plus with SONY HDR-SR11?
I used VS 9 when I had MiniDV camcorder made by Canon. I recently bought Sony HDR-SR11 and would like to know if VS 11.5 plus is the way to go, or I should try SONY Vegas software?

Does anybody use VS 11.5 plus with SONY HDR-SR11?

The one thing you still have not done is fill in your Profile, which will give us your system details. And on those details really depends a sensible answer to your question, I am afraid.
Yes, VS11.5+ (version 11.5.0157.2) can handle the AVCHD produced by your camera. But -- and it's a big 'but' -- AVCHD is the most demanding of computer resources of just about any video format I am aware of. As such, you really require a powerful computer, not just to edit it, but even to play it smoothly. The consensus seems to be that at a minimum, you require a Core 2 Duo or better, a Core 2 Quad. If you press my System button, you will see I have one the latter. And I have been playing around with AVCHD on it, and have burned a few AVCHD discs as well to play on my PS3 via HDMI cable to my high def TV. Brilliant!
But even with the Quad, I find that in Project Mode, the playback can be a bit choppy, though playing the original video in clip mode, or playing back the edited video, it plays quite smoothly. Editing also takes time. If you don't have a Core 2 Duo or above, but your computer is P4 3.0 GHz with hyperthreading or above, then you can use VS11.5+'s SmartProxy feature, which in effect creates standard definition versions of your AVCHD files. You edit the SD files in real time, and then when you are finished editing, the edits are applied to the AVCHD files. But both the creation of proxy files and the application of the edits can take a long time.
Vegas can also handle AVCHD, though I am not sure that it can produce menus on the AVCHD discs (which VS11.5+ definitely can). But I would imagine that Vegas too would baulk unless you have a powerful enough computer.

It would help if you would explain what issues you had. I have now installed VS11.5+ at different times on two completely different computers and had no troubles either with the installation or subsequent operation...
EDIT: I have now seen you separate post on your problems. Hopefully someone will be able to help you with that.

Installing VS 11.5+
I have installed VS 11.5 + on both Windows XP and Windows Vista without a hitch. It went very smoothly.
Smart Proxy Use
I have been trying to figure out how to use the Smart Proxy files for editing my High Def video. I check the box to enable, and even have selected video clips to create proxies for. I don't think anything changed, though. Is there a tutorial on using Smart Proxy - or a way to tell if the proxy files have really been created and are in use?
