Transitions: fade to black?

Post by test-card girl »

Hi all,

I want to add some transitions effects between video clips. However, I can't seem to find a simple 'fade to black'. Am I missing something? Does it have a specific name in Video Studio?

I'd also like to have the first clip appear (fade in? - not sure of the technical term for this!) from black but again, can't see an obvious way to do this.

I'm using VideoStudio 10 SE on XP.

Would be grateful for any suggestions!

To add fade transitions you need to first add a color matte or clip from the Color Library (found in the Library drop-down menu). The default Library shows Video, just click the down arrow beside it to access the other Libraries.

For a Fade-in from black, place a black color clip before your clip. Go to the Effects library and select the Cross-Fade transition, drag it between the color clip and your video clip.

For a Fade-to-Black transition, again drag a black color clip from the Color Library, and drop it on the timeline after your last clip. Now go to the Effects Library, FX and drag the Fade-to-Black transition between your last clip and the black color clip.

NOTE:
A quick way to open the transitions library is to go to the Effects step. Press the Effects step tab located across the top. Cross-fades, Fade-in/out, ect are found in the FX section.

Thanks, Ron! I was looking at the transition effects and couldn't see fade to black because it was only showing 'film' effects. I've got it now.

Onwards and upwards...
