unable to access the audio codec driver

Post by rebrab001 »

When trying to create a video file and selecting mp3 for audio under the video save options I get the message "unable to access the audio codec driver".
What is the fix for this?

Welcome to the forums,

Even though VS is suppose to be able to utilize MP3 audio, it does not do it very well. This is more due to MP3 being a video file with the video stripped away. This can cause problems for video editing programs . So we recommend converting the MP3 files to WAV before using them in VS.

Try using AUDACITY, a free open source utility for recording and editing sounds. It is capable of converting your mp3 files to wav.

It would also be helpful to know what format *video* file you were trying to create which would use .mp3 audio...

FYI, further to Ron's suggestions, Video Studio seems to have particular problems with the LameMP3 codec. I believe that one may come as part of the Nero suite package.

Unfortunately, there are around 800 video formats which use the .avi extension... Was it by any chance DivX or XVid?
