Trial version does not appear to run

Post by dhmiller »

I downloaded the trial version of Ulead VideoStudio 11 yesterday, but cannot get it to run. When I attempt to run vstudio.exe, nothing appears to happen. Task Manager lists Ulead VideoStudio 11 as a running Application, but I don't see anything on the screen - no error messages, etc (and nothing in the task bar)

I do have Admin rights. This is a Windows XP/SP2 box (full details in my profile).

Thanks

Welcome to the forums,

On the download page under the instructions, there is one instruction that seems to be more important, and often overlooked, and highlighted red in the quote below;
Instructions

* Before installing the VideoStudio 11 Plus English Trial version, please download and install the latest versions of the following playback applications:
o Microsoft® Windows® Media Player
o Apple® QuickTime®
o RealNetworks® RealPlayer
* In order to run the VideoStudio 11 Plus trial program, you will need the latest Microsoft® DirectX® updates for your system installed. If you don't already have it, you can find the latest updates for DirectX® 9 (primarily for Windows XP systems) here.
* Save the setup file into a temporary directory on your hard drive. If you own another Ulead product, please make sure you install the trial into a folder other than the one where your existing Ulead product programs are located in.
* Using Windows Explorer, find the self-extracting file and double-click to start the installation. Select the appropriate options in the remaining message screens.
This seems to correct a lot of issues. It can be downloaded from HERE

You might also entertain exempting the vstudio.exe file from Data Execution Prevention. Instructions are found in this earlier post;

When you say you are attempting 'to run vstudio.exe', are you simply double clicking on that file in the Video Studio folder on your computer using My Computer/Windows Explorer? If so, then I seem to recall that caused problems. It is best to use the icon on the desktop.

Also, if you are not getting the full program appearing, then kill the running process in Task Manager before trying to run it again.
