Can you pause a chapter requireing user to press play?

Post by kavasc »

I have searched the forums to no avail.

I want to make the chapters on the DVD set up so that at the end of each it pauses requiring the user to press play on their remote to continue.

This way the DVD can be used for a presentation in lieu of a computer.

Any ideas?

Not with Videostudio.
If you are giving a presentation why not simply press the pause button on the remote?

Couldn't you record each Chapter as a seperate video and add each to your final dvd ?

Sure, but if I do that and add each video to Video Studio's DVD authoring tool, how do I set it up so the system pauses at the end of each video forcing the user to press play to continue?

It does not seem that is a feature available in Video Studio. I assume it is in DVD Movie Factory?

It's also possible in VS. Just select the Back to Menu option in the drop-down menu of Navigation Controls in the Project Settings (press F6 on your keyboard, or press the gear looking icon located in the lower left of the burn module).

Doesn't that just take you back to the menu? I tried that without adding a menu and in preview mode it does not do anything at the end of the chapter.

Yes -- I was also under the impression that the Back to Menu option only worked after an entire 'title' i.e. main video, was played, and not after a chapter in that title.

I should have been more clear...

I was suggesting the Back to Menu, using Accolades suggestion of Titles instead of Chapters.

Ah...  Yes, that would work, though from the point of view of backing a presentation, it would involve more fiddling around by the presenter to always have to find the next title to play. My own preference would probably be for the suggestion above to simply use the Pause button on the remote control!

So what I am hearing..er...reading is that VS doesn't have a mechanism to make a movie that pauses at pre-defined times requiring the viewer to press pay in order to continue. The goal is to make a presentation that requires little to no "thinking" on the part of the presenter while still being able to leverage any TV with a DVD player as an instant presentation device. It doesn't work if they have to fumble with menus, remember what chapter was next or have to press pause - although the last option is a fall back position

I have a copy of DVD Workshop 2 and will see if that will be of more help.
