If you are talking about a hybrid disk where the AVCHD is burned in that format to a standard DVD but is played back on a Blu-Ray rated player in high def, then you get a folder labelled BDMV. Below that are a series of sub-folders. The video files themselves are in the folder labelled STREAM. And they use the .m2ts extension. At least they do in mine!

I have to say I am more than happy with the way they play on my Sony PS3 via HDMI on my 1920x1080p 115 cm LCD HDTV.

To add to Ken's comments:

Question: What is the file type on the DVD? Is it mpeg-4?
Answer: They are AVC video files :: AVC stands for Advanced Video Codec ...Read ths Link-> AVCHD Description

Answer: Also called H264 Video that have specific parameters (not all H264 videos are AVCHD Compliant) , the above are included as part of the Mpeg-4 specification.

Answer: The M2TS file extension is the container format used to carry the video & audio streams.

Question: Does it matter?
Answer: YES, AVCHD disks are burnt to standard DVD's, they are not Blu-Ray Disks, although they will play in Blu-Ray disc players
that support the playback of AVCHD disks

NOTE: - AVCHD Compliant Disks can only contain AVC/H264 video.
Blu-Ray Disks can contain AVC-H264/Mpeg2/V1 Video Codecs
