Correcting for backlight use

Post by drl711 »

I took some outdoor video in shade and for some reason used the backlight feature on the camera. Now all the white colored objects are extremely "loud "and bright.

Is there any filter that can step-down the brightness of the whites. I have tried most of the filters in 11.5 plus.

Thanks.

We have come across this before - it is the same scenario as in photography.
If a picture is over exposed there isnt much you can do to cure the brightness, if something is under exposed you can generally brighten the scene up.

Dependant upon how severe the over exposure is you can consider
1. Adjusting brightness and contrast.
2. converting the colour scene to monochrome
3. Apply a filter such as duotone to give a sepia effect.
4. I found that converting an image to monochrome and then placing a colour clip over it on the overlay track, reducing the tranparancy to let the underlying video show through gives a better result than the duotone filter.
