VS11 Slow Project Opening

Post by stufar »

Operating System: Vista Home Premium
Motherboard: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4400+
Graphic Card: NVIDIA GeForce 7300 LE
Sound Card: Realtek High Definition Audio
Processor:
Hard Disk Drive: 226GB, 159GB Free
Memory: 2GB

As I had purchased a new computer with the spec as above I upgraded to VS11 and have just come to start my first project. However, I have a problem that each time I open the project it takes about 10 minutes with the "please wait" message while it counts the percentage up to 100% and lists the files within the project, before I can do anything.

The project is approx 40 minutes long with approx 150 clips and images. I've tried unchecking the Relink Checking box within Preferences but this didn't make any differences.

With my previous lower spec computer and VS10 I have compiled much larger projects without this problem.

Any advice would be gratefully accepted as I'm finding this very frustrating.

Thanks
Stu

Hi Stu, and welcome to the forums!

Unfortunately, we need to know what type of video you are using in the project. If it is high definition, for instance, then even on my Quad, I find a project of 100 or more clips will take several minutes to open, though I have never timed it in detail. High definition, and particularly AVCHD, is very demanding of computer resources and it takes time for each clip in the project to be "seen" by the program. Cumulatively, these several seconds mount up to several minutes overall.

The video clips were captured from my DV camcorder in 16:9 format (not high definition) and the clips are avi files, 720x576, 25 frames/second, data rate 28794kbps.

10 minutes does seem long...

If you have automatically set VS to "run as administrator" you will need to disable it. I find VS opens quicker in Vista home premium then.

Also...I found that the files load quicker after SP1 when opening a project in Video Studio.

However, none of my projects are as big as yours.
