Computer Freezes when I try to "Share" a video via

Post by aricnh »

I would appreciate help solving the following issue when I try to "Share" videos I have made ¡V which makes the purchase of VideoStudio useless for me at this point. Thanks in advance¡K.

Issue:
After I have selected mpeg's, avi's, and VideoStudio projects to burn onto a DVD, my computer quits responding and I get an error message. Here is what I am doing:

1) Selecting: Share-Create Disc-DVD
2) In the "Add Media" window that pops up, I select my files (either AVI, MPEG or VSP files)
3) 50% of the time, my computer freezes and I am unable to click the "Next" button.
4) The other 50% of the time, I can get to the next screen to choose my menu (Usually a "SmartScene Menu"), and my computer freezes and I cannot click the "Next" button.
5) ONLY ONCE, have I actually gotten to the "Burn DVD" screen and once I gave the command to create the DVD, my computer froze up.

I always get the following error and the program will shut down. The error message is always:

Welcome to the forums!

I suspect the culprit could be the AVI files, compounded when your insert .VSP project files which include references to the AVI files. Can you please right click on one of the AVIs within Video Studio's tiumeline or library pane and copy ALL its Properties here please. Do the same for other AVIs if they are from different sources originally. The problem is that there are over 800 video formats that use the extension .avi. Many of them, including the highly compressed DivX and XVid formats, are not really meant for editing, just playback. It is often best to convert them first to DVD-compatible mpeg-2.

As it is, if you are using some of the stranger AVI formats, you are expecting Video Studio to do what is a very complicated conversion as part of the an already complicated burning process. This is compounded if you use .VSP files which include references to those types of AVI. You see, a .VSP file is a Video Studio Project file, and it is not in itself a video file -- only a small text files which tells Video Studio what video is included in the project, where it is located on the computer and what editing has been done to it.

Suggested work flow by SJJ1805 for Video Creation

Briefly.... I recommend that you firstly create (render) MPEG2 files BEFORE you enter the authoring stages. Currently you are mixing various file types and also using a VSP (VideoStudio Project) file. Whilst technically this should not present a problem, sometimes it appears to do so.

Thanks for providing those details, but where did you get them from? They aren't quite in the layout that Video Studio Properties provide. As I suggested, you need to right click on the files within video studio, then choose Properties. The ones you provide do not say what kind of AVI they are, whereas the VS Properties normally will.

As it is, they do indicate you are using a very small frame size, and their bitrates also seem incredibly low, even for DivX/XVid or else they could be up in the high definition range if there has been a mistype of 20 or 23 kbps instead of 20,000 or 23,000 kbps. Where or what exactly did these files come from?

Here are the correct AVI properties

Apologies about the earlier properties ¡V I didn¡¦t get them from within the VS software. Below are the correct ones (and I have double checked to make sure I didn¡¦t mistype the bitrates. These files originated from a video camera phone (in Taiwan) and were emailed to me. If I do need to convert the files to MPEG2 files, is this something I can do from within VS or do I need to purchase additional software?

Unfortunately, I have never heard of the 'MWVideo Decoder DMO'. I have also done several Google search for it, but could find nothing relating directly to it. It is obviously one of the very highly compressed formats which at the best of times are difficult to edit. Indeed, they are not meant for editing, but only for presentation.

Certainly, Video Studio does not have any native capacity with this format. At the very least, you would need to ensure you have the relevant codec installed on your computer or use a conversion program. But given that I cannot find any details about the format itself, I cannot suggest what program might do such a conversion. You might need to do a Google search for camera/phone conversion programs, or even contact your friend in Taiwan to ask if a program disk came with the camera, and if so, is it small enough to send you as an attachment to an email.

Hopefully, though, someone else here might have more useful information...

I have never heard of the 'MWVideo Decoder DMO either.
I posted this response earlier today to another thread and it would seem to apply to this situation also........
