How to auto-add chapter titles?

How to auto-add chapter titles?
I do a lot of short track speedskating editing and we have lots of prelims, heats, quarterfinals, etc.
How do I auto-add chapter titles?
I don't want to go into the menus and double-click on EACH and EVERY single chapter title to rename it Heat 1, Heat 2, Heat 3, etc.
Isn't there a way where I can see the list of chapter titles, then cut and paste into the list so it can automatically propagate the titles?
Also, for some reason, I've managed to rename all my chapter titles and save it. THEN, for some reason, after I load the VSP file, all of my renamed chapter titles have gone back to their default titles! (Chapter001, or Chap0, etc).
What's going on!? It's driving me crazy!

Oh right. I do apologize for forgetting this:
Properties of your source files (format, file size, where did you get it?):
Format = MPEG-2s, and M2T files
Got it from my camcorder (Sony HDR-HC7)
What devices are involved and their mode of connection?:
N/A
Project Properties (important):
NTSC drop frame (29.97 fps)
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
Lower Field First
(DVD-NTSC), 4:3
Output format (file, DVD, VCD, SVCD): DVD and soon Blu-ray
PAL or NTSC: NTSC
Error Codes (if any): None
Product Version: VS11+

Your best bet is to type the common part of the chapter which in your example is [Heat ] (include the space after the word), highlight it with your mouse and press [Control] [C] on your keyboard to copy it to the clipboard.
Highlight the next item to be changed and press [Control] [V] to paste.
All you then have to type is the actual number(s) 1 2 3 etc.

It has become almost a mantra with me over the past couple of months to suggest people first go to the Microsoft DirectX website and download the latest update patch. The current one is dated May 2008 and can be found at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en
Note that it updates both DirectX 9.0c (XP) and 10 (Vista). The number of your DirectX installation will not change, but the patch gives extra functionality in a number of areas and corrects other faults in VS11 in particular which do appear linked to Windows updates. Menu problems seem to be amongst them.
Also, when you close the burning module after you have changed the menu, do you rely on the VS message saying it is saving something? If so, ignore the message and manually save the project (File > Save) and see if that has any effect.

Ignore the message that tells you it is saving (something) - when you exit the authoring stage you must manually save the project. Next time you open that project your Menus (and altered text) will be intact.Zclyh3 wrote:What about the part of the disappearing chapter renames?
I've renamed it several times and sometimes it stays after I rename it and other times it reverts back to chapte, or chapter001, etc.
I do a lot of high end video gaming and my DirectX is always up to date. I've already gotten that installed.Ken Berry wrote:It has become almost a mantra with me over the past couple of months to suggest people first go to the Microsoft DirectX website and download the latest update patch. As for closing the burning module, I always manually save my files to make sure. Even though I do this, my chapter titles still revert back to Chapter001, etc and not the renamed chapters I've typed it sometimes.

I don't often use menus, but I just finished a project where I used one and I can confirm what you are saying. After creating my menu I closed the burning module and saved the project. Upon re-opening it did not save my title names.Zclyh3 wrote:I do a lot of high end video gaming and my DirectX is always up to date. So what gives? This has been a complete nuisance since I have to keep renaming my chapter titles (Heat 1, Heat 2, Heat 3). I have maybe 7 different racing distances, and those come with maybe 20-25 chapter title each. I don't time to rename over 100 chapter titles every single time I'm getting ready to create my DVD image.Black Lab wrote:I don't often use menus, but I just finished a project where I used one and I can confirm what you are saying. I'm surprised there is no mechanism for the software to display all the chapter names within a project, and allow me to rename all of them one time for it to propagate into the software.

Feel free to add that to the Wish List thread.
