WinDVD 9+ hang's at splash screen on startup
When I start the program it hangs up at the splash screen...dead. I'm hoping it's not because I'm running XP64. I haven't been able to access Corel's tech email...there seems to be a problem with their site. So here I am....has anyone had this problem and solved it? Thanks

Same Problem Windows Xp x64 and it freezes
Setting compatability modes does nothing.
Followed their instructions, told them it did not work and then got another useless list of things to "try"
PowerDVD works fine on mine and I can trial the full version with Blu-Ray.
I usually prefer the WinDVD, but this does not look promising.

rose3..thanks for thr reply! I agree with Ken_wilsonii that the compatability modes are a dead end. I do have a DVD in the player but the program never gets far enough to access it. I have to go to the Task Manager to get ride of it. There are two programs listed as not responding: "Splash" and "Corel WinDVD". End either one and they both go away. Oh, Windows Media Player will play said DVD so there's nothing wrong with the player (Asus 20X SATA model DRW-2014L1T).
bummer - so maybe that points the finger at XP64, ... dunnoJohnhy wrote:rose3..thanks for thr reply! I agree with Ken_wilsonii that the compatability modes are a dead end. It seems that WinDVD 9 was not tested that much on WindowsXP X64... to bad for us (the buyers).
Now let's get to the point
There is a possible solution to this "splash screen freezing" problem.
Try the following steps:
1- Go to your WinDVD install folder and browse your way to the "\Skins\WinDVD 9\Video Window" folder. Here search for the file "Splash1.png" and kill the damn thing (delete in other words).
2- Go back to WinDVD root folder and find "WinDVDFs.exe", start the program with that (WinDVD will start in FULLSCREEN).
IMPORTANT NOTE: from now on you must use the WinDVDFs exe to start the program, NOT THE WinDVD.exe. I don't know why, but if you have you internet connection up and running, and open the WinDVD.exe, the program will freeze... disable you connection and the program will run with no problems (start the player from WinDVDFs so you can use the program with you connection UP)
This is the solution/compromise that I have to make for my money, but at least it works for me (and I hope it will work for others to). Have to say that I am a little disappointed by Corel... a little more if I think about MSP to.

Nothing to do with 64 bit OS
I have XP SP3 and have the same issue.
Like the previous issue with WinDVD patches, I think it has something to do with the video card.
I have Nvidia 8800GT.
The other possibility is my antivirus solution, NOD32 is causing issues when WinDVD tries access the web tp support the "live features"

I am locking up when WinDVD9 plus Blu loads, but only if I have a BD in the drive. If i have a DVD it works great except the alltoHD feature doesn't always work. If I start without a disk in, it hangs when I put in a BD and hit play. Then I get a "this program is not responding"

Who would have ever thought blu-ray on PCs would be such a pain?
