Cannot start the capture graph error

Post by markl951 »

Can't capture from my Panasonic PV-GS250 since upgrading to VS11+

I get a popup error message "Cannot start the capture graph."

This all worked fine before. Firewire captures continue to work OK with other apps like Windows Movie Maker but I'd rather use VS to capture from the camera.

I've searched the forum but couldn't fine a solution.

You say you upgraded? Then I assume you had a previous version? Did you uninstall that after installing v11? The reason I ask is sometimes when you uninstall a previous version it removes something that the new version needs. I just received and installed my copy of VS 11.5 Plus. This is a new install, not an upgrade. I am getting the same "Cannot start video graph" error message. I am capturing from a Magnavox VCR/DVD combo using a Diamond One-Touch Video Capture VC500. I can capture using the One Touch software and then open it in VS, but I just don't like having software that doesn't work like it is supposed to. Anyone have any suggestions for this problem?

markl951 -- you need to go to the Ulead.com site, and choose the Download button along the top, and follow the prompts to updates for Video Studio 11. Download and install in this order: the 6 November 2007 update patch (which should correct your problem) and, if you have registered your copy of VS11, then the 8 November 2007 Power Pack. Ignore the later 'Hot Fix' as it is only meant to correct one fault some people had in installing the product which did not allow installation to complete.

Albireo -- click on the ? in the top right hand corner of the VS screen, then 'About Ulead VS'. Your version number should be 11.5.0157.2. If it does not have the 2 at the end, you don't have the complete VS11.5+. You also need to know that more than a few capture device manufacturers use proprietary technology in the manufacturing process that they protect by ensuring only their software works properly, or even at all, with the device. I know nothing about your particular capture device, but it is likely only to allow capture using the OneTouch software that you have found works. It might thus not be the fault of Video Studio...

Thanks for the help Ken. I had installed the 8 November 2007 VS11 Plus Power Pack (11.5) without installing the 6 November 2007 update patch first.

Installing the update patch after installing the Power Pack doesn't work. I had to completely uninstall everything and start over in the proper order.

Seems to work now.

Okay, I checked and I did have the 1 at the end, so I downloaded the update and installed it. Still the same thing. Then I read your instructions to markl941 and how he got his to working. So I uninstalled VS, reinstalled it and did the updates per your instructions to him. Still can't start the capture graph.

I wouldn't think this to be the case as the OneTouch came packaged with an SE version of Video Studio. I was having the same problem with it. I am in the process of trying to contact Diamond but part of their Tech Support website is down at the moment.

As I said earlier, everything else seems to work as it should. And I can capture video with the OneTouch software, then open it in VS to edit it. I just don't like having software that I can't utilize every aspect of it.

Just because it came with a SE version of VS doesn't mean that can be used for capture with the hardware. Adstech, for instance, is another company which provides (or at least used to -- not sure of their current practice) a version of VS with their DVDXpress range of capture devices. But the VS was only for editing, once the video had been captured using their proprietary CapWiz capture program...
