need help with .mov

Post by allen »

i have an AIPTEK a-hd cam that records at 1280 x 720 HD. Sound is awful, but the video is amazing for a cam under $200. Anyway ¡K.now on to my problem. It saves in .mov files and my adobe software would not work. So I read that studio 11 by pinnacle would do it ..and it will also not work with .mov. I have to covert it with vid crop , then load it to the editing software. I want something that I can do everything with one software. ¡K.now that I have rambled on and on ¡Kmy question is will the corel unleaded software do this before I buy it. Can you import .mov?

Hi

I do not have VS 11 but I think yes.

If mov files are like the rest of the video files there are many types having many properties.

I would use the trial version of VS 11

Gove it a go yourself and see if it works with your files

According to the product specifications, QuickTime (which is MOV) will work.
Input File Format Support
- Video: AVI, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, M2T, MPEG-4, H.264, QuickTime,
Windows Media Format, DVR- MS, MOD (JVC MOD File Format),
3GPP**, 3GPP2**
- Audio: Dolby Digital Stereo, Dolby Digital 5.1, MP3, MPA,
QuickTime, WAV, Windows Media Format.
- Images: BMP, CLP, CUR, EPS, FAX, FPX, GIF87a, ICO, IFF,
IMG, JP2, JPC, JPG, PCD, PCT, PCX, PIC, PNG, PSD, PXR, RAS,
SCT, SHG, TGA, TIF/TIFF, UFO, UFP, WMF
- Disc: DVD, Video CD (VCD), Super Video CD (SVCD)

Output File Format Support
- Video: AVI, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, M2T (only MPEG Transport Stream)
MPEG-4, H.264, QuickTime, Real Media, Windows Media Format,
3GPP**, 3GPP2**
- Audio: Dolby Digital Stereo, Dolby Digital 5.1, MPA, WAV,
Windows Media Format.
- Images: BMP, JPG
- Disc: HD DVD, DVD, Video CD (VCD), Super Video CD (SVCD) movie title
- Media: CD-R/RW, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, DVD-R Dual Layer,
DVD+R Double Layer, HD DVD.
However, I agree that you should download the trial version! There are many variations of each format, and many people do have trouble with their MOV files. The highly compressed formats (including MOV, MPEG-4, DivX, etc.) can be "difficult" to edit or convert. (These formats are fine if you just want to watch the video on your computer.)
I want something that I can do everything with one software. ?
I fully understand that, but if the software that came with your camera doesn't meet your needs, you may need to use more than one program.

Many of us use several different programs. Most of my projects use 3 different video programs, plus a couple of programs for labels and "packaging", and maybe another program for audio!

There could also be trouble with the fact that the .mov files are high definition, and possibly because it may be 1280 x 720p, rather than one of the more common HD formats like 1440 x 1080i.

I am not sure any longer which exact version of QuickTime is installed with VS11/11.5+, but it is usually several versions older than the current version of QT. QT Pro should be able to handle the files, no problem, but installing the latest version of QT usually conflicts with VS...

But I too agree you need to try it before you buy it. What does the camera manual itself recommend by way of editing software? Did it provide any on an installation disk, for instance?

I might just get the software based on the support from this board, this is great. I think you guys are right, I will try the free demo . . The disk that came with the cam only had an hd Decoder on it to make it work with windows media for viewing. But not with windows movie maker for editing. Now I hear it works with a mac with no problems. I got hooked on HD with an indy film company I was working with and when I saw this cam I figured for $130 you cant go wrong. (even though I knew the sound was awful, the quality of the film is amazing). I hope it works and if not, I guess I will use 2 programs to edit. The vid crop software keeps the HD quality, but I would still just like to do it all in one program. The new cam that is replacing this one is 1440 x 1080 I think. But still savs in .mov. There is another company (DXG )that makes an hd cam under $200 and it also saves in .mov. I will let you guys know how it worked¡Kthanks again for the help.
