Video Capture Error Unable to Switch to Capture Mode.

Post by guardiansoulblade »

A few days ago I was able to use Ulead Video Studio and my webcam to capture video fo myself and see it in Ulead VideoStudio 11.5 Plus. Now when I try to capture video with that same webcam it says "Unable to switch to capture mode. Please check to see if your video capture driver is working properly." It also says [15023:4:2] in the bottom left corner of the error box. I have windows Vista Home Premium. Could someone help me fix this?

Video Capture Error Unable to Switch to Capture Mode.

Not an answer I'm afraid, just a similar problem.
I'm checking out the trial version of VS 11 and had put this problem down to "limitations" but perhaps not.
VS 11 will not recognise any capture plug-in other than the "ivi capture component" (which is the only plug-in listed in Tools/Change capture plug-in). Version 9 is fine, listing some 5 plug-ins including Ulead DVB-T capture plug-in.
I would have assumed that to capture DVB-T Video one would require a Ulead DVB-T capture plug-in.
Having had previous problems with V9 and Dolby audio captured via DVB-T, I skipped V 10. Looks like I'll be skipping V11 also.
Best of luck.

Video Capture Error Unable to Switch to Capture Mode.

UPDATE:
Removed VS11 trial & VS9, cleaned out every registry reference to Ulead, Vision Studio, etc. Re-downloaded and reinstalled the latest UVS11Plus_TBYB_EUS.exe trial from Corel and started again.

Into capture video window and 15 attempts later trying to select Fusion HDTV, BDA Tuner1 as the capture source (and being advised "Unable to switch to capture mode") the blue preview screen changes to black and I can now scan for channels. Great, everything seems to be working, even saved a test file. Close VS, reboot and reopen VS.
Edit window opens and a progress bar advises me to wait. So I wait?.. I am then advised that VS is not responding and needs to close.
Software opens no problem next attempt. Into capture video window where I'm then advised that VS has encountered a problem and needs to close.
That's all folks? Back to VS9, may be somewhat limited but at least it works.

With my own Fusion HDTV card(s) I inevitably use the software which came with it to capture. I also accept the .tp format, difficult though it can be to convert into a format seen by VS (though I use HDTV2MPG2 for that, or else Video ReDo or even the converter that came as part of the Fusion package). Works fine that way with VS11.5+/VS11+. I can also do it by setting .mpg as the capture format, but oddly enough I have had more difficulty using that...

Video Capture Error Unable to Switch to Capture Mode.

Hi Ken, long time no chat.
I refer you back to the problems I had with VS9 and raise the same argument. If software requires pre treating files with third party software before it will work correctly with that software why would one purchase the software in the first place?
VS11 is supposed to capture video and work with those captured files which the trial did, on at least one occasion. In my case and crashes aside, the problem has been getting VS11 to accept the FusionHDTV,BDA Tuner plug-in as the source for the capture.
cheers,

And as I probably said then, a lot of us here use many more than one program for different aspects of a video project. Yes, VS should work as a stand-alone and do everything. But you are expecting it to do everything well for every variety of computer/software in the world. While I think the DVico Fusion HDTV card is possibly the best on the market, it has its quirks. And I have developed a work-around which works for me.

I see you have Vista. Have you applied Vista SP1 to your computer recently? In my case, when I applied it on my Ultimate machine, the Fusion card stopped behaving properly. I removed SP1 and the card works properly again...

Hi Ken,
If nothing else I am persistent.
I have run through registry cleanup and reinstallation about half a dozen times now. After each installation, when VS11 is first opened a progress bar advises me to wait, then I’m advised that VS is not responding and needs to close. Subsequent openings are fine.
It also appears that “something” is left “somewhere” as the capture source now automatically selects the FusionHDTV,BDA Tuner plug-in.
I have saved a number of files recorded direct via VS11 and the Fusion card and touch wood, VS is doing this very well.
Getting VS11 going correctly was the major problem and with one exception appears to be doing all what I ask of it. None of the problems with Dolby AC3 that I had (and still have) with VS9.

The final foible is one I could probably live with. After heavy editing and moving files and transitions around a VSP file is saved but when closing VS11, one is presented with the “VS is not responding and needs to close”. When VS is reopened one gets “do you want to recover the previous file”. So far I have clicked no and loaded all VSP files I had previously saved without problem. I’ll give VS11 a good thumping over the next 30 days and see what transpires.
cheers,

PS. I stuck with XP, I’ve got enough troubles as it is…….

FWIW, I too have started getting the 'VS has encountered a problem and must be closed' after I have already closed the program. In every case, it has been associated with different, though all resource intensive, HD editing programs. I am not saying it is a HD problem as others have had it in varying circumstances. But apparently if you have been getting VS to work hard, it is likely to produce this message. Like you, I simply ignore the offer to open the saved project, and reopen my own version of it. (In addition, I tend to save the project every time I make a significant edit...)

I got my webcam to work. I had to click the capture options button after I clicked the capture button. It works fine now.
