Hi, evaluating VS11+. One particular file format hangs when the jog slider is used. THe file is created using Debut which is a screen capture utility. THe best quality file is generated with these settings which are causing the problem. I have used other settings within Debut and these work ok in VS, but the quality is not as good. Are these settings to high for VS11+?

Frankly, the properties are a little bit weird. If it is true OPenDML AVI, then it seems incredibly small in size -- 149 MB for 10 minutes of video??? It if were uncompressed .AVI, it would be around 10 GB for 10 Minutes. If it were DV/AVI, it would be over 2 GB for 10 minutes. And the frame size is strange -- 1024 x 516 (almost exactly 2:1) is very strange. The bitrate of 242.83 is also incredibly low. So I have no idea what to think.
What on earth are you hoping to do with this video anyway?

Hi Ken, thanks for the quick reply. THe use is quite interesting. I have a video of a an animal. I have recorded the motion of it using sensors and produced a graph of the motion. I have made the graph move a pointer along the x-axis. This is were I use the Debut program to record the screen as I press the excel chart and move the pointer along the graph. (the screen grab may be the cause of the odd frame size.) So to synch the movement of the graph to the actual video of the animal, I then bring these into VS and align them together. Then produce an output AVI file.
The settings that seem to work are as follows;
Microsoft AVI openDML
106545
25 fps
565 secs
data rate 187.43 kbps
Video
Cinepack Codec by Radius
Atributes 24 bits, 1212x694
Total frames 14125
Cheers

I had some video from my HDV camcorder do something similar. I had "breaks" in the video where we had rewound and watched some of the video, then gone back to the end and started recording again. Whenever I got around one of the "breaks" in the video VS would apparently hang. It would actually eventually come back, but it was thinking very hard for a while. I'm not sure what caused this, but it would be very painful if it happened often.

That's why it is often recommended to first record a tape all the way thru to establish a continuous time code.
