Unanswered post leaves user hanging

Post by willydeluxe »

Re my post Add Video Files - Click Next - Crashes:

Obviously I am grateful for the help already offered. and obviously I understand that nobody here has the time to keep up with all the updated older posts, but I am currently left in the lurch.
I cannot get my VS9 + VS10 + SP1 + Vista Patch to work, but the standalone VS11.5+ trial does work.

I don¡¬t want to spend any more money on upgrading to features way beyond my needs, so how can I get a VS10 that works on my system?
Can I get a standalone VS10 download? (which may or may not work, I accept).

And if I have exhausted all possible help here, to whom do I turn now?

Hi willydeluxe

I am sorry you are still having problems with Video Studio.
I have just read the posts concerned, I do not think the ¡¥unanswered post¡¦ was intentional on anybodies part. I am sure the boys will be back.

Formatting the OS and reinstalling must be the ultimate in fixes.

Providing that you are not using corrupt files, (which is hard to identify).
Have you tried using Share Create Disc ¡V Add Video Files¡XUsing the VS ¡¥video library files¡¦, or sample videos provided by VS.

Assuming that all options have been exhausted then maybe you have a corrupt installation disc.
That means going back to the place you purchased VS from and trying to persuade them of the fault.

I just had a similar problem. After bringing my MPEG-2 files into the burning timeline, creating the menu, then previewing the video, clicking Next would just cause VS10+ to hang.

A little research led me to believe that my DVD drive was not being read and therefore VS would not proceed. I remembered that my Roxio EZ CD Creator had become corrupt and I had reinstalled it. What I had forgotten at the time was that the Roxio included DirectCD (packet writing software), so I went back and removed that. Still no luck with my VS problem, however.

I then did a System Restore to a couple of weeks ago, then did a clean uninstall/reinstall of VS. Everything now works. So now my next job is to figure out what corrupted my Roxio and VS (Microsoft update?), as they crapped out around the same time.

I notice you are running XP SP 1, most programs now require at least SP2 but you can skip that and go directly to the recently released SP3.

Trevor: yes, I have tried using the supplied video clips, with the same results.

Black Lab: maybe you have something here, with your tale about Roxio. Maybe the VS9 to 10 upgrade can¡¬t "see" or doesn¡¬t like the burning software that came with my machine, whereas 11.5 does.

sjj1805: running Vista, but I suspect that¡¬s what you meant.
Is there an SP3? God forbid, ¡¬cos the laptop gets clumsier and slower every time it installs any Windows update.

But wait a minute - should I have Nero burning software installed?
Lord help me (again): more expense (upgrading to a Vista version), and more bloated software that I really don¡¬t need.
(The Acer came with NTI cd and dvd burning software.)

You confuse everyone. You say in your system details you have XP SP1 and now you say you have Vista. Then you talk about Roxio and Nero, VS9, VS10 and VS11.5. :? :? :?

Okay, I haven¡¬t updated my system details but it clearly states in the first post of the origional thread that I am using Vista on this particular machine.

If you are confused by my installation - VS9 + VS10 upgrade + SP1 + Vista patch, then I don¡¬t know what I can do to make your perception easier.

The VS11.5 Plus standalone trial that I am trying works fine.
My VS9 + VS10 upgrade + SP1 + Vista patch crashes.

Still confused?

Well this is a sorry state of affairs.
After some well-intentioned suggestions, none of which solved the problem, I am left in the dark again.
The 11.5 trial is running out so I shall shortly be reduced to a non-functioning VS10.

Thanks Ulead.

If your v11 trial works your only alternative may be to upgrade. :?

Just one contribution from Admin or Moderator, and not a single suggestion as to where else I might direct my problem.
What a shame. This forum used to be so helpful.

Thanks Black Lab for the comment, but giving more money to Corel is hardly a suitable solution to a technical glitch.
A free upgrade would, on the other hand, resolve everything, and make Corel look pretty good in the process.

No that does not say you are USING Vista it states you have applied the Vista Patch, not exactly the same thing, you could have applied the Vista patch simply for the sake of it but were still running XP.

Don't forget we have never met YOU and although YOU are no doubt very intelligent there are some people who are not quite so gifted.

"Where's the dammed 'any' key?"

"The cup holder on my computer has broken!" (CD Drive)

An IBM customer had trouble installing software and rang for support. "I put in the first disk, and that was OK. It said to put in the second disk, and I had some problems with the disk. When it said to put in the third disk - I couldn't even fit it in ...." The user hadn't realized that "Insert Disk 2" meant to remove Disk 1 first.

Ok humour over..... perhaps you need to try and explain the problem again but before hitting the [Submit] button get your wife to read it and see if she can understand the question.

I am sorry we failed to meet your expectations. Maybe you are not aware, but none of us wrote the code for VS, and none of us work for Corel. We are merely users of a piece of software that we enjoy using. Each one of us, at one time or another, came to this forum because we had a problem. Those of us who stuck around apparently felt the need to pass on some of our knowledge to help fellow users. We do not have all the answers nor has anyone ever professed that.

Maybe it is time for you to trash VS and move on.
