I recently finished editing a movie (57 minutes duration) and rendered to DVD. There were a couple of things on it that I thought really needed improving. So I went back to the PC , retrieved the VS file and made the various changes. All of the chapter and selection menus had been loaded along with the main movie apart from a few minor changes to the chapter titles , which I corrected. I then saved the project (under the same filename) and then burned the project to a second DVD , which only took about 30 minutes. I was taken aback to find out that NONE of the changes that I had made to the project were reflected in the re-rendered DVD !
I went back to the PC and by previewing found that , although the changes were there in the project itself , they were not there when I previewed. I played around looking for some action to rectify this , didn't really find anything but eventually discovered that the changes I had made to the project were now being portrayed in the preview.
So I burned to disc and all was well.
However , can anyone explain what should be done to ensure that having burned a project to disc and then re-edited the project , the changes are reflected in the re-rendered state and , ultimately , in the burned disc.
Trouble re-rendering

Hi Terry
What version of VS are you using?
1/ My first thoughts are that you have saved the project using a different /similar name.
2/ When you make changes to the burner menu, close the burner module, you return to the edit timelines now save the project, this should save the changes to your menu.
3/ I am unsure if you are using the VSP in the burner module, or if you are rendering the project (share Create Video File) then using the Mpeg2 file to burn the dvd?
Assuming you are adding an Mpeg file.
If you go back to the project, re-edit, then Share Create Video File, you are intending to replace the first Mpeg with a new one, if you overwrite the file, when you Share Create Disc the system cannot find the old file, request a re-link. The thumbnails look multi-coloured, a bit like a rainbow.
If you create a new Mpeg then you would have to replace it in the burner module or start from scratch.

Thanks for the response Trevor.
I am using VS 11+ and , as I said in my first post , I used the same file name after I had made any changes.
The changes that concerned me , and which did not appear at the Share/CreateDisc/DVD preview stage , were modifications to existing Titles and added titles + music track. As I said , now I know that it may be a problem , I will pay particular attention to it in future. What I did to correct it , I don't know but I will pay more attention next time and see if I can get some details.
I do not use the CreateVideoFile option in the Share section of VS. I always burn directly to DVD.
I don't fully understand what you are meaning when you talk about "adding an Mpeg file" , "replacing the first Mpeg" and creating a new Mpeg".
Thanks for the help so far

As a quick follow-up to my previous post , I followed your link to to your Video Production instructions.
There are things in there that are extremely useful and which I was unaware of. I am printing a lot of them off as we speak and if I come up with any more questions , I will get back to you.
Thanks again

Hi Terry
Sorry if I confuse the issue regarding the Mpeg files.
As you don¡¦t do Share Create Video File to create an Mpeg, I can understand why you don¡¦t know what I am trying to say.
Ok
Video Studio has to use an mpeg 2 file to burn a DVD.
There are only two options here:-
1/ We allow VS to create the Mpeg files automatically in the burner module.
2/ We create the Mpeg 2 files prior to burning by using Share Create Video File.
Either way the time to create the Mpeg file is the same, the memory used to store the Mpeg file is the same.
Lets discuss the first option,
After editing our project we Share Create Disc, this takes us to the burner module.
After creating the menu we finally hit the burn button.
At this point VS does not have an Mpeg 2 file, the first thing that happens is that warning window appears, ¡¥This action will take¡K¡K¡K.
After that we see the blue progress bar indication Create/Convert Titles, this is the render process that will make the Mpeg 2 file. It usually takes a long time. The actual file is saved to the working folder. It is this Mpeg 2 that is used to create the dvd. The process continues with Create Menu, and finally burning a disc.
Option 2 is the direction I choose to take.
After Editing the project I select Share Create Video File. I choose Pal-DVD, this creates my Mpeg2 file. ( I can of course create my own template)
I can play this file on my PC using Windows Media Player to check quality.
All is ok
If I wish I can edit a further project and make another Mpeg 2 file.
To burn a disc:-
I start a NEW project and immediately go to Share Create Disc.
Add Video File, yes I add my Mpeg 2 file or files, create the menu and finally hit burn button.
But this time the blue bar starts with ¡¥Create Menu¡¦ there is no Create Title, there is no reason to render the Mpeg as it already exists. The time is reduced to creating the menus and burning the disc.
Overall both methods are similar in that they take the same time and use the same memory.
Creating the Mpeg in the burner module has caused problems for some users. Corel¡¦s reaction to this is to basically use option 2.
As you don¡¦t seem to be having any problems the choice is yours, but I feel more in control of the process. In fact when I started video editing using Ulead VS you could not insert a project to the burner module, you had to create a video file first. I think the option was called ¡¥Finish¡¦ rather than Share. (a long time ago) Maybe I¡¦m just stubborn, you cant teach an old dog¡K¡K¡K
Good luck

Thank you for taking the time to give me that very clear and simple explanation. That has given me a bit more food for thought.
I get a real buzz making my own movies and the sense of achievement when it is all finished is quite remarkable. However , I can see that I have loads to learn.
Thanks for your time

Just one very important footnote to Trevor's detail explanation of the two alternative workflows. In the one we recommend (i.e. the second one), once you have inserted your new mpeg-2 in the burning timeline, go to the middle of the three icons in the bottom left of the burning screen. There is a little box beside the words 'Do not convert compliant mpeg files'. Make sure that box is ticked (it usually is by default). That way, your already compliant mpeg file will not be re-encoded. Then build your menus and burn.
