Unspecified error 5:0:0 Need help.

Post by daddog »

I am wrapping up our school DVD year book. This is the 4th year I have done one, but this time after it is about 1/2 way through the rendering process it comes up with an error.
Says simply Unspecified error 5:0:0 and I have to click OK.

I have not changed anything and after the first error even tried burning just a small portion (1 class) of the DVD. Worked just fine. It is about 3 gigs so I have plenty of room.

I open VS Editor, go to the share tab. I have nothing in the time line. I choose create disk. Add VS projects. Change the MPEG slider to 100% in the settings button. It is set to lower field first.

The only odd thing I have noticed it the preview option does not work. I choose preview and it does nothing. Yet I was still able to burn the short clip of a single class, but when I set it up for the whole school it does not work.

Any ideas anyone?

I would not recommend this option

Hi

You may be best to create a Video File from your individual projects prior to burning the disc.
Then use the Video Files in the burner module. Add Video File.
At least opening each project will check that they are intact and working correctly. (no re-linking required etc)

Creating the video file first ensures there is no rendering taking place in the burner stage.

Open each project in turn, go to Share Create Video File¡XI assume that the total run time of all projects is under 60 minutes, if yes then select Ntsc ¡V DVD

Use the resultant Mpeg 2 files to burn your disc

It has become almost a mantra with me over the past couple of months to suggest people first go to the Microsoft DirectX website and download the latest update patch. The current one is dated May 2008 and can be found at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en
Note that it updates both DirectX 9.0c (XP) and 10 (Vista). The number of your DirectX installation will not change, but the patch gives extra functionality in a number of areas and corrects other faults in VS11 in particular which do appear linked to Windows updates. The menu preview problem seems to be amongst them.

I also tend to leave the quality slider alone at its default setting. Some people swear by it, however. So if you use it and run into problems, you could try setting it slightly lower than 100. Some computers without sufficient resources, in particularly, may find 100 a burden they cannot handle.

Worked gents. Updated Direct X and then also rendered each clip prior to burning. Not sure what solved my problem, but life is good.

As always, thanks for your help. :)

Unspecified Error [5:0:0] with Blu-Ray burn VBR two-pass

Post by bm707 »

I am experiencing the same error while trying to burn a Blu-Ray disc, but only when using variable bit rate two-pass encoding. I am new to VideoStudio 11.5 Plus, and only purchased it for AVCHD and Blu-Ray burning. My source video is AVCHD, and after some work, I can burn AVCHD DVDs successfully. However, burning Blu-Ray discs has been problematic. I need to fit about two hours of video on a single-layer disc, so that requires a bitrate of around 27,000 kbps. Encoding constant bitrate or single-pass variable bitrate completes successfully most of the time (albeit after a long time), but the results really don't look very good. I have used DVD MovieFactory for a long time (currently have version 6 Standard), and know that VBR two-pass provides much better looking results than CBR or VBR single-pass. However, every possible way I have tried to burn VBR two-pass generates "Unspecified Error [5:0:0]" after 8-10 hours of encoding. It doesn't matter if I attempt to burn a disc or if I just try to create the Blu-Ray folders; either way, encoding fails.

The O/S (Vista ultimate SP1) is fully patched, and I also manually updated Direct-X as noted in a prior post. For the record, I am using VideoStudio 11.5.0157.2 Plus. I would be willing to pre-render the video so that the Blu-Ray burning portion of the software does not have to render it, but have not been able to find a way to do so with 1920x1080 at a custom bitrate and ensuring VBR two-pass encoding and upper field first. Is that possible, and if so, how? Has anyone else tried two-pass encoding for a Blu-Ray disc, and found the same result? Is there anything else I can try? The encoder options presents a choice of MPEG encoder, but the only available option is "Ulead MPEG.Now Encoder." Is there any other MPEG encoder than can be installed and used with VideoStudio, that might work properly? I have already spent more than two weeks of work in just trying to make one acceptable Blu-Ray disc, and frankly I am rather disappointed with the bugginess of this software. Any help in making it work properly would be much appreciated.

I am afraid that you are amongst a handful of users who are at the pointy end of Blu-Ray. Most of us -- including me -- have not got to the stage of Blu-Ray yet. I am just at the stage of burning hybrid AVCHD discs for playback on my PS3 to my HDTV. (And while I successfully use 2-pass encodes for that, I also use a CBR of 16800. But I acknowledge that an AVCHD disc is different from a Blu-Ray one, so cannot comment further.)

I seem to recall, however, that at least one of our now disappeared users had installed a Cinepak codec for burning Blu-Ray, though he was also experiencing problems with that. (I think the Cinepak codec won't work under Vista, though Cinepak might by now have brought out a Vista updated version.) You might want to use the Search function and look for this guy's name as the search parameter. There were quite a lot of posts from him over a short time, but as I say, he has now disappeared. The name is Jerry Jones.

And if you make any progress, we would really appreciate it if you would post back.

Finally, a Blu Ray burner under $300; So I bought the LB model, got Saturday. Was really waiting for NME/VMD to come out with affordable software. Thank goodness for rewritable BR disc. I'm still expiermenting as of today. I have dozens of AVCHD cards, of video footage I've taken. I had no problem editing or retriving on VS11+. Put together a 2.5 hour video, and checked the; make Blu-ray folder options. Used 2 pass, and a VBR of 15MBs. 5.1 surrond sound. It rendered for almost a whole day; (about 22 hours). When I came back home, It showed an; unspecified error, as BM707 said. The disk, did not attempt to burn. and no folders were made. My expeirience in making DVD's, I found out, to make folders or ISO files, because rendering is long; and if there is only a burn or disc error; you don't have to re-render, if the iso file is okay. I then tried a few things, using smaller vids. 3 minutes, just to see if the blu laser of the burner works. I used a single pass, @ 15mps. The Blu-Ray disc burned, but the quality wasn't good. Saw pixeling. Well back to some more 3minutes of expiermenting. Thanks forum for all the help. Will let you know, what I can find. Also, the iso blu-ray option cannot be checked? I hate folders.

I realise you are dealing with AVCHD. But in my opinion, in burning it to Blu-Ray, you should use at least the same bitrate as the original files, which will probably be around 16800 or even perhaps higher. And usually constant bitrate too. Video Studio unfortunately uses as a default setting VBR 15000 max, which means in reality an average around 12000 kbps. I believe this to be too low to give you true high definition. In using it, I also noticed various artifacts creeping into the final video.

I seem to recall also that my computer hung when I tried using two-pass encode, so now I just use one pass too. With the higher bitrate and constant setting, I doubt you would notice any improvement in quality by also using two-pass encode anyway.

And long encoding times comes with the high def (and especially AVCHD) territory, I am afraid. On my Quad (see specs in my System button below), producing an AVCHD hybrid disc which will play on my Sony PS3, takes over 3 times real time. I don't know what your computer is capable of (thanks for filling your System button) as you are using an AMD processor, but if it is less powerful than a Quad and, as I suspect, closer to a Core 2 Duo, then it will take correspondingly longer to process the video. However, 22 hours seems excessive even so...

Thanks Ken;
But the VS11+ Blu-ray default template BPS is 35000. Which is too big for my 2.5 hour .mt2 file, and Blu-ray 25GB disc. When I lowered my bitrate to 20000, it just fits on the disk. I have a first generation AVCHD camera which has a top CBR of 12000. When I expiermented directly to Movie Wizard, using a 2 minute AVCHD file; the Blu-Ray disc, @ 35000, was almost as breathtaking as the AVCHD file. I think, I tried 15000 VBR, and wasn't too pleased. Both were done, with a single pass. My mt2 file, shows to be rendered @ 25000 or 28000? I'll let you know how it turns out. I want to get a 3rd generation AVCHD camera, because; the first generation AVCHD are good, but not great. But it beats, rewinding etc. making vid clips, before you edit. It used to take me days, just to make the clips, that I wanted to edit later. With AVCHD, the clips are already there. Use or don't use.

Thanks Ken for your feedback. I have made some progress, but have not succeeded in getting two-pass VBR encoding to work. Actually, I have gotten much further in the process, as encoding now completes, but the program crashes while multiplexing. And, yes, it is repeatable and happens whether I attempt to burn a disc or just create folders. In order to get that far, I had to do the following:

* Open Ulead VideoStudio Editor, and immediately save a new (empty) project.
* Go to Share -> Create Disc -> Blu-Ray

[Side note, I had to follow those basic steps just to make an AVCHD disc successfully. From my search into Jerry Jones prior posts, I see that he also did the same.]

* Add video clips. Fewer is better, although I don't know how many is too many. However, my original tests had around 100 clips, and that was too many. For my latest tests, I pre-rendered my video (using a separate program) all into just one file, and using only one clip in VideoStudio presented no problems.
* Create chapters and menus as desired. Note that more than one menu template can also be problematic. So, at least for the first attempt at making a disc, I found it more reliable to use only one template for all menus.
* Set encoding parameters. Note that the gauge on the bottom of the window doesn't seem too reliable, so it should only be considered a very rough guide. For two hours of video, a bitrate of 26,000 to 27,000 should be approximately correct.

VBR two-pass encoding will now complete successfully (and require about 20 hours on my computer.) However, when the program attempts to multiplex the video, the error message, "There is an internal error in the DVD engine. [533:-2147216402:0]" appears. Now, there is no way I have yet found to successfully multiplex the files within VideoStudio. But, since the files are cached on the hard drive, I am wondering if they could be imported back into VideoStudio and used to generate a new video file that (hopefully) does not need to be re-rendered. I haven't tried it yet; does anyone have any experience in doing that?

Also, it should be noted that saving a project and re-opening it doesn't seem to be consistent or reliable. I have never been able to successfully work with a saved project--every attempt has either caused data loss or generation of the "Unspecified Error [5:0:0]" that was my original problem. So far, it seems more reliable to simply start a new project if the Blu-Ray burning window must be closed.

Beyond that, obviously VideoStudio is quite buggy, and many features do not work as advertised, particularly regarding Blu-Ray burning and working with AVCHD files. Does anyone know if Ulead is working on any patches or fixes for this, or if they have any plans to do so?

Side note to richmg821 regarding AVCHD camcorders: I have the Canon Vixia HF100, and it really produces excellent quality video, especially with good lighting conditions. About two hours of video fits on a 16 GB SDHC card. Definitely recommended.

Finally, I am currently exploring other encoding options outside of VideoStudio, and will post back if I find anything that works satisfactorily. Thanks again for your feedback and help.

Thanks for the detailed, though unfortunately somewhat negative, feedback. Very useful grist for the mill!

I haven't run into menu problems in burning an AVCHD disc, but then again, I don't prepare chapter menus, though I create chapters. So I only ever have to worry about one template anyway.

I am also not sure what you mean when you say:
But, since the files are cached on the hard drive, I am wondering if they could be imported back into VideoStudio and used to generate a new video file that (hopefully) does not need to be re-rendered.
Which files are you talking about? The original ones? New ones you have created from the many smaller ones you mentioned? Or perhaps the temporary ones created by having the rendering done in the burning process? If the latter, then they might be cached in the working directory, yes, but I suspect that once the process terminates, whether successfully or not, the temp files are wiped.

As for fixes and patches, it's called VS12, I am afraid. We all have high hopes, but none of us has any idea of when exactly it will be issued.

I also look forward to any feedback, including about competitors' products. You may have seen from Jerry Jones' later posts that he was considering moving over to Macs and Final Cut Pro. While I would love to try FCP, I am certainly not going to buy a Mac to do so or even one of the Mac/Intel hybrids which accept the hybrid version of FCP!!

Yes, I am referring to the temporary files created during the rendering process, and they are not erased immediately. As long as I keep the Blu-Ray burning window open, I can attempt to burn again, and it proceeds immediately to multiplexing without re-rendering, so the files are definitely there. Certainly there must be a video stream and audio stream file sitting in a cache/working folder, so it should be possible to copy them out of the working folder, and then paste them onto the timeline in VideoStudio. I'll have to try that later; I was just wondering if anyone had already tried it.

So far, I haven't heard much good said about any Hi-Def software. For every person who says (Nero, VideoStudio, Final Cut Pro, Vegas, or any other program) works, there are many more with serious problems. I have tried an OEM version of PowerProducer 4, and while I realize it isn't the latest version, it was so bad as to be completely unusable. I had primarily used Premiere for video work prior to AVCHD, but currently Adobe has no support for AVCHD. At this point, I am focusing on trying to pre-render the video either directly into MPEG-2 or into HDV first, before trying to use it in VideoStudio.

Regarding VS12, I doubt I'll be an early adopter, as I find that most Ulead programs have serious issues until after the first or second patch. I have used various versions of VideoStudio, Media Studio, and DVD MovideFactory over the years, and that always was the case. Moreover, I am reluctant to spend more money to buy functionality that this version should have had, if it only worked as advertised. On the other hand, it is clear that I'm going to have to do something going forward. Maybe Adobe will get PE5 right. We'll see.

As always, thanks for your help and feedback, and I'll post back if I learn anything more.

Just a footnote or postscript -- call it what you will. While Premiere does not have functionality in the sense of being able to recognise AVCHD in its original state, curiously enough, its Encoder can actually output in AVCHD. But typical of Adobe, it is high end and in essence unusable for burning in anything except Adobe's own authoring program. That is because it produces an AVCHD video file which is quite high quality, but is the video stream only, using the .m4v extension. There is also a quite separate audio file produced. But I don't have Encore, and I have not found another program which either recognises .m4v or can put it together with its audio file and render into a usable format...

411 on new single pass 2.5 hour burn. Should have been finished around 4AM. It's now 9AM; Blue led flashing on BR burner (uh-oh), program greyed-out. Reboot, open disc; not full. checked folder, to see if it had any Blu-ray files, folders (yes it did); then tried to burn Blu-Ray DVD folder. Folder highlights; but..."File type, not supported"?? Will give it a break today, until I find out, why not? Folders corrupted, or does VS11+, does not let me import BR folders? Think my updates on VS11 are there. Reason came back to using VS11; SV, doesn't allow you to make menus, it's expensive; but you can put a 2 hour video on a single layer DVD, at high quality, and see no pixeling; but it is useless for BR; free upgrade coming? Hope my BR burner didn't go to the electronic graveyard. Yes Ken, single pass with my cpu is 4x. At the 40% mark I was rendering for 4 hours.

I'm sort of glad I didn't buy a Blu-Ray burner earlier. I was rooting for HD-DVD and then, NME's red ray VMD system, of which I bought their player. I did burn a single layer hi-def DVD with their encoding, and it did work on their player. Their user software, is not availiable yet; and their pro software is $10,000. I still believe more people would have bought into HD-DVD, including myself, if they came out with a desktop HD-DVD burner unit.
BM707:
If I buy a 3rd generation AVCHD, I was set on the HF100; unless something better shows up between now, and December 2008. A 4GB card on my Panasonic HDC-SD1 (1st gen.) gave me 40 mins., and I copied each card, when I finished onto a DVD disk, and then on my laptop, when I was away; one for one. Had 12 disc, made 12 DVD's.
I'm going to leave VS11+ alone again, until I'm able to save, and then later burn my Blu-Ray files; it's just a waste of time for me, if I can't burn a Blu-Ray ISO or Video folder files. I have to make copies, if I like the project. Even with a 2 minute video; the time it takes to render the menus, are long. I'll keep checking, and thanks for all the 411. Guess I'll have to wait for Sony's upgrade, or try some other's program, unless Ulead fixes this. When I first bought my CD burner (1x, $1000, $15 a blank CD); It was simple, it worked (minus the coasters). You just needed any audio file. Videos have always been a pain... and the software, hardware, was usually always misleading. Also cheaper disc, (and I thought they were all equal) were usually the cause of most problems. "Make Hollywood Type DVD's", but you didn't know, you could only go to 4000BPS with USB1. And it went on and on. No DVD software, had the same results, some were horrible; some took 6 months (Pinnacle) to even get a working menu. Now here's Blu-Ray..!!! It's just a disc with more data on a single surface; why the programmers made it so sophisicated, is beyond me? I just want, working software before it goes to the market. I'm not having too many problems, I just need to save, my files; and make disc from them. Can something be more simpler?
