Bonjour Alain! Soyez le bienvenu au forum!

Unfortunately, we need more information. First, how exactly did you download your VHS tapes? What capture device did you use? Can you please right click on one of the captured files in Video Studio, either in the timeline or in the library window, and copy ALL its Properties here please. That way we will know what format the video is in and, more importantly, what audio codec might be involved.

Can you also tell us which version of Video Studio you are using, and also describe your computer please.

It'd also help if you could tell us what the properties of the dvd file you made are, as in what was the audio file type, lpcm, mpeg, ac-3.

Alain has emailed me a screen grab of his file properties for the captured files. They are all absolutely normal, high quality DVD/mpeg-2 properties for NTSC (720 x 480, 4:3, UFF, VBR 8000 kbps) and the audio is rock solid mpeg layer 2 16 bit 48000 Hz dual channel stereo. (Alain -- you could have typed them here just like I did!!)

There is no reason why you cannot hear the sound with those properties. Moreover, it uses a codec installed by Windows, as far as I am aware. However, I am confused -- you say
by watshing the file on my pc , i can heard a sound
But what program are you playing it on when you can hear it???

I'm afraid I wouldn't agree with mpeg audio being rock solid.
In my experience of producing dvds for worldwide markets, I'd produce them with AC3 audio, followed by LPCM.
I wouldn't produce one with mpeg audio, as I've found it to be temperamental with players.

Which, may also be the reason he can hear sound if played on a pc, but not a dvd player?

I agree that mpeg layer 2 audio is not part of the NTSC DVD standard which Alain uses, although it is recognised by most players these days. But I have never heard of a computer not being able to recognise and play it... I didn't get the impression he was playing it on a stand-alone player, but of course that is possible. And if it is an older player, then it is even more likely to be the problem.

By the way, by rock solid, I did not mean that it is totally acceptable from a standards point of view. It is just that the properties he gave were absolutely standard mpeg layer 2 audio properties. And I saw that as making them 'rock solid' from the point of view of mpeg audio!

Please see my email button below. I will happily look at the file for you. Make sure it is not too big because most ISPs don't like very large files...

I am also having an issue with sound. I have created my movie and have burned it once to DVD. Now, when I attempt to edit some of the clips, there is no sound.
Can this be corrected?

I don't know since we know nothing about the files in question. Are the ones you are trying to edit the original ones or have you taken them off the DVD somehow or other.

Please right click on one of them within Video Studio -- either in the timeline or the library window -- and copy ALL their properties here please.

Also please indicate if anything significant has changed on your computer since you successfully burned the DVD -- and new program etc. And in addition, it is always useful to know what your computer specifications are.

I just created the DVD about an hour ago and saw a few things which needed to be editted. I'm attempting to edit the original and nothing has changed on my computer since I burned the DVD.
My computer is a Gateway 5428, Vista, 2G Ram, 100G free HD.
As a side note, when I attempt to import new videos, they come in with no sound. Odd thing is, I can see the equalizer moving as if there is sound but, none plays.
Properties for the file I'm attempting to edit:
File
File format: NTSC DVD
File Size: 552,332
Duration: 510.884 seconds

Video
Video Type: MPEG-2 video, Lower field first
Total frames: 15,310 frames
Attributes: 24 bits, 720 x 480, 4:3
Frame rate: 29.970 frame/sec
Data rate: Variable bit rate (Max 9450 kbps)

Audio
Audio type: MPEG Audio Layer 2 files
Total samples: 24,520,521 Samples
Attributes: 48000 Hz, 16 bit, stereo
Layer: 2
Bit rate: 256 kbps

Thank you for any help.

Have you tried rebooting the computer?

I found it. Windows had turned off the Video Studio device through its' sound mixer. I've raised the level of the sound bar and I'm back in business.
S.U.T.??
