The ordinal 17 could not be located
HI Forum member,
I need help with ordinal 17. The problem that I am fighting for is like this:
My system is runing good after I install videostudio 11 plus. Then I need a capture card to capture my picture from my dv tape. I install the "One-touch Video capture card". after finishing the One touch video capture card installation, I open my Video studiio 11+. It turn out this message: "The ordinal 17 could not be located in the dynamic link library mpgvout.dll". I imediately unisnall my One touch video capture card. After finish my uninstall of One touch video capture card, I open my video studio 11+. It works and run normal. To solve the problem with my One touch video capture install, I copy mpgvout.dll into videostudio directory.
It didn't work either. If you know the solution, please help me. Always appreciated for your help.

Welcome to the forums,
Is this your "one-touch video capture device" ? http://www.diamondmm.com/VC500.php
Did you have problems installing VS11? Generally this is with the AVControl SDK. If you did, you might try installing the Hotfix found on Ulead's website; http://www.ulead.com/tech/vs/vs_ftp.htm
Be sure to read the information associated with it on the webpage. If you did not and the AVControl SDK was installed without problems, then ignore downloading and installing the hotfix.
Did you download and install the Update and Power Packs? They are found on the same page as the hotfix. If not you do need to install the update, and then installing the Power Pack will upgrade your version to 11.5.
Next if you have not recently updated your DirectX drivers for your system you need to do this. The most recent is dated May 30, 2008. You can download it from HERE.
Finally I will say this about any USB capture device to be used for capturing DV... It belongs in the garbage can!! USB is not intended for capturing or rather the transfer of DV video. The best way to get your video from your camcorder to your PC is using a Firewire (IEEE1394 or what Sony calls iLink). What make and model is your camcorder? If it is a mini-DV or Digital-8, it probably has a Firewire port. Your PC may also already have a Firewire port. If so, all you need is a firewire cable, which costs less than half of what you may have spent for that capture device.
Firewire will provide you with the same quality as what is on your DV tape. That capture device will not.

Last time I saw a message of that nature it was a problem with the motherboard. Not saying your motherboard is your problem but you can check out the following Google search

Ignore the actual number (17) but look at the list of hits in general to see if there are any clues that may assist.

Ordinal 17
Thank you for your sugestion and advice.
My system work fine with videostudio 11+. Just after install One touch video capture device, it shows me the mesage ordinal 17 could not be located when I try to open my videostudio11+. If I uninstall One touch software then everything work fine with videostudio.
I will take the idea of firewire as you mentioned. But I dn't know if my sony dv cam has firewire support. I still don't know how to get firewire cable. Can I get from Fly? My sony dv cam model is DCR-HC42. Thank you for your help. wishing you have a good day.

It most definitely has firewire, though Sony calls it i-Link. Look in the camera manual. And what is Fly -- a camera or electronic/computer store? If so, just ask if they sell Firewire cable, and firewire card if your computer does not have one already in it. You might want to do a Google search for photos of Firewire ports so you will be able to tell what they look like and thus know if your computer has one.
As for the cable, you would need a 4 pin (camera end) to 6 pin (computer end). Make sure you get the right one as they also come 4 pin to 4 pin and 6 pin to 6 pin.

The error message is almost certainly due to a version mismatch between the dll mentioned and the program that is trying to use it.
If you got the message just by opening VS11, it means one of vs11's libraries got overridden by the one from the capture card, which is probably older. It may never work to have both your "one touch" and VS11, but a possible combo to work would be installing VS11 after the one touch.

This is exactly the error I get after I installed the drivers and software for my new Diamond VC500 capture device. I just found this after some research- I'll see if it works when I get home today and report. If someone else tries it beforehand, please let us know how it went. Thanks..........
