Scrolling image effect?

Post by Sele_1 »

I've seen animations that have an image that scrolls through the frame, but can't figure out how to do it in GIF Animator.

It looks like you take an image thats say 468x600, and end up with a banner that is 468x60, but the whole image scrolls up or down through the banner.

I made a graphic to help illustrate what I mean.

If the effect was done with the image I posted, the first frame would show "Start here," and then scroll down through the rest of the image showing the "scroll down" letters scrolling vertically, and end with "End here." being the final frame.

Is there a way to do this with GIF Animator?

See Tweening By Position.

Frame 1, position that image/object so the top is at x-y position 0,0. Most easily done using the Alignment buttons on the Pick tool's attribute toolbar.

Frame 2, use that same toolbar to position the image/object so the bottom of it is at the bottom of your canvas.
Select Frame 1, and click the Tween button, adjusting the settings as needed.

Thank you. That worked perfectly.

I did a little experimenting rather than ask more questions, and came up with this.

Knowing how this is done now will really help me a lot. I appreciate your help more than I can say.

Glad to be of help - thanks! :D

Experimenting is a good thing - that's how I figure most things out.

Most everything I know is from experimenting, so I know what you mean!

I've made scrolling animations before, but I did it by making each frame one-by-one. Taking a 468x1200 image and cropping it to 468x60, moving down 20-30 pixels, cropping again and repeating until I have all the frames I needed was extremely time consuming. This method is much easier, and a LOT faster.
