The Box around text in VS 11+ window

Post by Ken Veal »

Yellow boxes (handles) around the text box-they allow reduction in size by dragging but not enlargement, why is that.
I once inadvertantly managed to colour everything inside the box surounding the text and then the text had a shadow folowing the contour
of the first and last letter, how did I do this and how else could it be used

What size is your text? I can enlarge and reduce the size using the handles. There is a point where the text is so large that you can not enlarge it further.
I once inadvertantly managed to colour everything inside the box surounding the text
Found on the Edit Tab
This is called the Text Backdrop. Check the box beside it, and another options appears to its right where you can edit the attributes, color (solid or gradient) and the transparency.
the text had a shadow folowing the contour
of the first and last letter
Click on the Border/Shadow/Transparency icon to access the shadow option and attributes. There are only 3 possible choices; Drop, Glow and Extrude. You can of course customize the attributes for each.

One very common use is called Lower Thirds. A Lower Third is simply a text and/or graphic object that appears in the lower third of the screen, and generally will briefly describe the video segment being viewed. News and sports use lower thirds extensively, almost to the point of using more than the lower third of the screen. They will most often have the stations logo, identifier, reporters name, date, time, ect...

Sometime ago I created a tutorial Found Here, about creating Lower Thirds using some of Ulead's Programs.

Title box

Post by Ken Veal »

thanks for the quick reply Ron.
Have tried to get the box around the title to fill with colour but no joy yet.
If and when I do can you advise me how I can show it here so you can see it?
What I have done though is to get something else by double clicking in the title box.The details are:-
One letter O size 100 in Courier New font
When I double click in the text box it doubles in size to 200, the cursor
changes to like an H on its side and there is a flashing vertical line inside
the box. This line can be moved from left to right and vice versa, but I cannot get anything from it.What is going on here?
I have used back drop but not the 3 choices via the "A"s in the Border/
Shadow etc ............Ken

That would be interesting on how you manage to fill the "box" surrounding a text object. I've tried to replicate the text resizing while double-clicking, however could not. :(

To post an image you first need to upload it to a webhost like Imageshack. Imageshack provides the link for you to post your images.

If you use the direct link, enclose the link in the following tags, minus the quotations; " ", otherwise just use what Imageshack provides.

For a full list and explanations of BBCode, there is a link located to the left side, below Options, which is below the Emoticons. Here is the page it takes you to; http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/faq.php?mode=bbcode

The first large image of the letter O was obtained by double clicking the smaller 2nd one.

By draagging the cursor from right to left over the O the 3rd and different coloured image displays. It will only keep like this if the mouse is held down for a few seconds otherwise it reverts to its original colour.

Thanks for the info re imageshack, hope the above puts you in the picture!

When you drag the cursor over the image you are simply selecting it. You can then change the attributes for the object. The color change is to let you know that the object/text has been selected.

Here's one for ya', you did know that with VS11+ you can change the attributes of each letter? For example in the word TEST, each letter of the word, can have it's own colors, font size, and type? Just select one letter, as you have shown in your 2nd example (drag the mouse over it), then change the attributes. Continue on with each letter..;)
