VS 10+ - Does it Require WMP?

Post by Manzano808 »

Wow when it rains it pours. I was just solving my QT issues when i noticed another problem. Using NLite and other neato tools i stripped out another hated piece of software from my unattended install for XP: Windows Media Player. I end up putting back the codecs i need. On this system everything SEEMS to work perfecty however when i finally go around to capturing some content from the 9800 AIW tuner, it plays back all pixelated. A bunch of little squares flashing all around the video.

The ATI Capturing utility (MMC?) does not produce this effect. I am wondering if i botched the VS install or does it have something to do with the stripped out WMP and/or missing/wrong codecs? I suspect M$ codecs rather than DivX would that be correct?

I really hope someone can help me with this as i realize that i have stripped out a large component of my XP install. I have done this before with little problems but of course it was on system without VS installed. Using Xp Pro SP2. Everything else is working great. Perhaps i should simply re-install VS or copy over the original VS install files from the backup copy? The backed up copy came from the full 'regular' XP install with only SP1 installed. And of course this older install always worked excellent.

I really like this with WMP stripped out (also removed IE and other junk) so i hope someone can tell me if it's a codec thing and what i should install to fix.

Solved - I Hope!

I'm not sure what was broke but here's what i did:

Copied all files folders from old system backup to new system. Deleted exiting before copying old files. Including the VS10 program files and every instance i could find on the C (Program Files > Common Files and the Docs & Settings AppData areas). I even switched out the "Windows Media Components" folder in Program Files folder because of the files that reference Ulead.

No re-install needed (yet - knock on wood) ;)

Well, no more square flashing pixels. And no WMP YEAH!! :)
