Are you using firewire (iLink) to capture?

iLink is what Sony calls the Firewire or IEEE1394 connectin. Moreover, it is the *ONLY* way of capturing video from your camera in the same quality it was filmed in. Your computer must have a Firewire card in it -- if it does not, then they are cheap and easy to install. Do a Google search for photos of the connections to check whether or not you already have one. You will also need a cable, which in this case is a 4 pin to six pin (camera to computer respectively). No ifs, not buts -- this is the ONLY way to capture properly from your mini DV camera...

Forget the USB cable that came with it -- that is only for capturing the still photos the camera can also take.
