Uploading to YouTube with Ulead 10 help....

Post by bubbs »

I just can't seem to upload any film I make on my Ulead videostudio 10 to YouTube.

Everytime i've tried it gets to the processing stage, I leave it for ages, then it comes up with invalid file format. I've tried uploading my films (which are no more than 8 minutes long-some just 2mins) using MPEG and then AVI but still no luck.

Am I doing something obviously wrong? Do I need to let it process for hours? How long should it normally take?

By the way, i work from a Windows XP laptop if that makes any difference....

If anyone can help I'd be very grateful, thank you

YouTube seems to like MPEG-4, WMV.

Try creating a MPEG-4 or WMV file then upload that to YouTube. I've only had 1 video file that YouTube rejected with that error, and sorry to say I can't recall what format I was using

With VS10+ there is no option like in VS11+ to Upload directly to YouTube, so of course you need to create your video file first, then upload it from YouTube.

What's the source video file properties you're using?

Thanks for the reply.

Not quite sure what you mean by 'source video file' but the following is what's written on the properties of the file i'm trying to upload.

File size: 86.0KB (88064 bytes)
Version: 10
Edit file format: MPEG files
PAL (25fps)
24 bits, 720 x 576, 25fps
Lower field first
DVD-PAL, 4:3

Source Video files are the ones that you inserted into your VS project to edit and then subsequently create a new video file. With a video clip in the Library or Timeline, right-click on it, select Properties. They should however match that of your Project Settings..

I notice that the Field Order is Lower Field First. Did you capture video from a mini-DV or Digital-8 camcorder? DV video files are always Lower Field First, while most captured analog video files are Upper Field First.

I take it the video plays ok in Windows Media Player or WinDVD or Power DVD, or some other software video player on your system? There could be a number of reasons why YouTube is rejecting it.

What does "Invalid file format error" mean?
"Invalid file format error" means that your video is in a format that our system doesn't accept. We accept most file formats, including .wmv, .mov, .mpg, or .avi. If your video meets these minimum requirements and still won't upload, it may be due to a problem with the video compression you are using. We recommend the MPEG4 (Divx, Xvid, SVQ3) format at 640x480 resolution with MP3 audio. Resizing your video to these specifications before uploading will help your clips look better on YouTube.

If you're using Windows Movie Maker, it's also possible that you tried to upload your .MSWMM file. This is not an actual movie file. An .MSWMM file is a Windows Movie Maker project file. If you're satisfied with your movie, choose the "Publish Movie" or "Save Movie File" option (depending on which version you have) under the "File" menu and create a movie file such as .avi or .wmv.
You could try to upload it to one of the other video hosting services like http://www.veoh.com.

I finally did it!!! Thanks so much for getting my old grey cells working.

When you mentioned creating a video file and the 'timeline' and 'library' the penny finally dropped. I basically needed to go to 'share' and then 'create video file'.

Thank you so much, you don't know how long this has bugged me.
