Partial loops

Post by KaraIblis »

I am editing a gif for an avatar and I need to get the file size smaller for some message board limitations. The animation has two parts; the first is 8 frames, the second is 11 frames. If I could just use 19 frames the file would be small enough. The problem is that I need the first 8 frames to loop several times, and then the second 11 frames to play only once, endlessly looping that same ratio pattern. Is there a way to do this without making the duplicate frames? If there is not, can someone suggest what kind of application I should be using for this sort of thing?
Thanks.

The limitations of the GIF format won't allow what you want, regardless of what GIF animation software you have. You'd have to duplicate those first 8 frames. Perhaps the flash format would do that, but then you need expensive software to make .swf files. But then, it's not likely the board will let you have flash format avatars.

You can always try optimizing the GIF animation - fewer colors, perhaps smaller dimensions.
