DVDs - Momentary loss of audio after each transition effect

Post by robertfudge »

Hi
I am new to this forum so hope I have entered all the correct system etc information under my profile.

Description of Problem:
My problem is a momentary loss of audio shortly following every transition effect on video files burned onto DVD. The problem is not evident when the video is played back before burning in the preview panes at either the editing or sharing stage.

I have set the default transition effect to ¡§crossfade¡¨ and have set the project properties field order to match those of the first clip (Upper field first).

After editing I have created a DVD compatible MPEG set as ¡§same as first clip¡¨. I then saved the project, closed it and then opened Share>Create Disc and inserted the new MPEG via ¡§Add Media¡¨ to burn the DVD. ¡§Do not convert compliant mpeg files¡¨ is ticked. After 3 or 4 attempts I still get the sound problem after each transition.

Properties of Source Files / Devices:

MPEG video clips (97 in total) totalling 2.5gb imported from a Sony DCR-SR90 hard drive camcorder to the PC hard drive using Sony ¡§Image Mixer for HDD Camcorder¡¨ software (via USB2 connection). Imported files on the PC hard drive then opened in Video Studio.

Project Properties:
PAL (25 fps)
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 576, 25 fps
Upper Field First
(DVD-PAL), 16:9
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 9100 kbps)
Audio data rate: 448 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 3/2(L,C,R,SL,SR)

Output Format: DVD; PAL

Error Codes ¡V None

Product Version: Video Studio 10 0110.2 Plus
Ulead Dolby Digital Power Pack 1.0

Any advice to cure this annoying fault would be much appreciated please.

Well you seem to have eveything just about right there!
Two things come to mind.
First, with VS open right click on one of the MPEGs you are working with and check the properties VS shows. Make sure that your output properties exactly match those original properties with particular attention to the audio.

The second thing is not so pretty. The Image Mixer software that Sony provides, IMHO, raises the bar to new heights on the term clunky. Have you tried to simply bypass that software and use windows to navigate to the files on your cam's hard disc drive and pull them over to you computer's hard drive? This may prevent Image Mixer processing the files in any way. I say this because the problem you describe seems to indicate that the files have some "Sony" type weirdness going on with regards the audio stream.

Thanks very much for that.

I'll try those suggestions over the next day or two and let you know what happens.

Now that you have mentioned it the problem could well be with Image Mixer as I don't get the same problem with footage imported from my daughter's mini dv tape camcorder (not via Image Mixer).

Thanks
