When I try to add some mpg video files the program hangs and requires a Cnt/Alt/del to shut it down.
Also if I try to add some dvr-ms video files it just shuts down.
The videos, mpg and dvr-ms play fine in windows media player. I am using XP service pack 3.
It does not do it with all mpg or dvr-ms files just some and as normal they are the ones I want to burn to DVD. I have saved the files from my digital TV card.
Thanks
Robert

Hi Robert /ALL who read this,
I am having the same problems on Vista and XP (both fully updated).
The files always crash moviefactory, yet MS windows movie maker will open these up, allow me to edit them and save them down as WMV files, which moviefactory allows me to use.
Knowing how temperamental MovieMaker is, you just know the files are ok if you can edit them, so it has to be Moviefactory. (BTW I'm using 6 Plus with the patches - so no excuses for not working - this is a year old now).
I have looked in the FAQ sections and NO MENTION of the file format DVR-MS is to be found.
Maybe we are the only two people in the world wanting to do this !
It's a same that Ulead/Corel are not even looking at this issue, at least from the information they have made available.
Anyone else use Media Centre to record video that you later want to put on a DVD after it's been edited ?
The more posts the merrier ! You never know this could help the cause and get this BUG fixed. Thanks.

Thank you so much Thane for the hint about using Movie maker to convert to wmv. I was able to convert the mpg file to wmv then Moviefactory finally accepted the file and I successfully burnt it to a DVD.
Why Movie maker worked with the file and Movie Factory would not is a mystery. Lets hope Corel gets its act together and sorts it out.
I am trying to convert some old cowboy movies for my elderly Dad, unfortunately Movie maker will not take dvr-ms files. I have found a free program though that does accept dvr-ms files and I am in the process of trying it out for the other stubborn movie I have been trying for ages to get onto DVD for Dad.
The program I am trying is MCEBuddy you can read about it here. http://mcebuddy.com/
MovieFactory accepts dvr-ms files just not all of them. Again I thought all dvr-ms formats were the same and the reason why they have the specific file extension.
It really is a pain with so many different video formats and codecs. We need a uniform format or at least a program not to crash or freeze when it doesn't understand a certain variation of an acceptable file format.

Hi Robert,
Not sure I agree with it being a mystery, I¡¦m 100% sure it¡¦s a moviefactory fault. If it was anything else why does MS movie maker work !
Well spotted with ¡§MCEBuddy¡§ I¡¦m trying it now, as it would help with moviefactory¡¦s short comings.
It should be noted that I only purchased ¡§moviefactory 6 plus¡¨ as I have a new PC with Vista and my old Ulead software did not work. So no change there then, and the got $69 out of me for the pleasure ! So I hope they are reading this and get this BUG fixed in the next PATCH.
Again I urge anyone reading this that has the same problem to add to the comments please.
Thanks all.
Thane

Well I solved all of my problems with Movie Factory......After having more problems with MF shutting itself down while importing more dvr-ms files, (no warning no nothing, normally importing the dvr-ms file then BANG no more program) I start the program up again and the file is there as though nothing happened. Import another dvr-ms file everything normal, import a third and BANG program shuts down again.
Anyway as I said I solved all the problems......I uninstalled the bloody thing and have requested a refund from Corel.
Has anyone found another program that actually works.
Thanks
Robert

Hi,
Sounds like one way around the problem.
If you get your money back, please do message this post again and tell all, as I think there are many more with the same problem looking at the number of views this post has had.
Good luck.

PS, if you find a program that does work with DVR-MS files (properly) then also post a link

Hi uleaduseruk,
Yes I will post back when I find a program that handles the dvr-ms videos properly.
I will say though Corel seems to have screwed up with their demo programs. I had problems with Moviestudio 6 demo failing to load after a couple of days into the 30 days trial.
I have now had the same problem with Photoimpact X3. I dowloaded the demo program installed it and it worked fine. I now click on the icon to start the program and nothing, no dialogue box to tell me anything just nothing.
Someone mentioned in a different thread that it may be a anti theft device if you try and load the program again. Well I did nothing other than install it, used it for a day or so and BANG no more program.
If you are listening Corel this really does put people off programs. A simple dialogue box would help to know what is going on.

I agree fully.
I have found support very lacking, and information on DVR-MS missing from the help files and FAQ.
I used to like the Ulead software, but Im still not sure if it is OS (Vista) or Ulead/Corel that is at fault in this case. But I know who I paid my hard earned cash too so I could master a DVD !
I'm also supprised that no one else has posted, or has seen the same problems.
I have 5 PC's with capture cards. 2 of them are media Centres, XP and Vista, and I have the same problem with files from them both.
Yet I can watch them on all machines without a problem.
So I'm 100% sure its MovieFactory 6 plus that's the problem.
Any one else have a problem ??

Hi Thane,
I know it has been a while but finally I have found a program that burns successfully all of the dvr-ms videos Movie factory couldn't. Also I got my refund from Corel, so it is worth a try to give them a call and tell them that the program doesn't process certain dvr-ms files properly.
The program I found is http://www.videoredo.com/en/ProductTVS.htm
It has a single one click burn to DVD which converted and successfully burned the most difficult dvr-ms video I had, or you can do other things with the video.
