What that dumbass is doing is trying to promote his website by creating as many links to it from other places on the Internet as possible. This will increase it's relevance in some search engines because it will make his website appear more popular than it really is.
People have written bots to spam forums, newsgroups, and blogs all over the 'net. The better search engines have of course picked up on this and know how to deal with this deception.
Spam on this group...?

I belong to the Sound Forge forum, and was reminded of a feature there: You can click "Ignore this person" which (I believe) would eliminate posts from that person from your view of the forum in the future. I always supposed that if enough forum participants found a particular person obnoxious enough, they would "ignore" him (or her) and he/she would soon find him/herself talking to the empty air.
Wishing to show UVS members what it looks like, I went to the Sound Forge forum and discovered that in the last few days they have revamped the forum and required new passwords and eliminated the "Ignore this person" feature.
That's just great! Now what?

That feture is available in phpbb but is a modification that has to be installed, there's hundreds of mods available. Even game mods, I just installed one a few days ago. The trouble is the more mods you add the more processing power it requires to process the page. Each page is dynamically generated by the server, so evertime you click a link it needs to create a new page. For large forums that can produce problems.
If it's phpbb forum maybe they decided to can it for better performance, or haven't installed the mod yet. I'd request it, if it's run well and enough people ask I'm sure the host will oblige.
