3 tape edit project

Post by andrewgerm »

Good day all

Been a while since I've saught the wise masters on this forum.

Hope this is the right spot for this, but seing as I started my attempts on Video Studio, here goes:
We have just finished shooting a production, using 3 cameras. It's a small docci. At present I have 3 projects, one for each camera, and have gone about removing all the un-wanted, or un-needed bits, such as mistakes, retakes, etc. We were operating on a rather small budget, so did not have anything like a clap-board, etc. One of us has VideoStuio 11, which we have used for the 3 project files so far. One of us has Media Studio. What recommendations are there for working with such a production, or any sort of workflow? Adding captions, voiceover, etc. would obviously be easy at the end, one we have cut everthing together.

Any, and all ideas most welcom, and thanks in advance :)

I would say that your best solution would be to use MSP. This will offer you much more flexibility and, as you have it available, there should be little difficulty in putting the output from each camera into a separate track on the timeline. You can then chop and change between them. Obviously, MSP 8 will give you better control, because you can apply transitions on any of the tracks without the roll AB system on the earlier versions.

Thank you all for the replies. I am busy reading through the links you provided. Neither of us are very familiar with Media Studio, so I guess we have our work cut out for us. As I said, we've removed the unwanted bits from the captured tapes so far, and each is saved as a seperate Video Studio project. Unfortunatly we were not able to sync the start and stop of recording, so we'll have to find a way to view all 3 vids simultaneously to see which camera angle / shot is best, and take if from there.

Would I be able to import my Video Studio projects into Media Studio, or would it be better to render each of those projects to an uncompressed AVI, and just import those files?

Thanks again :)
