Create Video File - Use Movie Template or Not?

Post by SuzAtHome »

I have figured out a lot of the editing steps and have my first video on Video Studio created. Now on to figuring out how to save it or convert it to burn it to DVD for use in DVD players hooked to TV.

I have been studying the manual and do not find enough detailed info on the choices availeble on how to now save the file to be able to burn it to DVD. Do I need to first take the step to Create Video File? And which of the choices is then best - to save it "Same as Project Setttings" or to go down that list and select DVD - and then when I do check that there are MORE decisions to make - NTSC DVD (4:3) or NTSC DVD (16:0)
What is the simplest thing to do from here, to have the file saved to burn now to DVD's?

Thank you!!!

Hi Suz

The steps you take really depends on the files you are using.
You do not give any indication as to your capture process.
Using the option ¡§Same as Project Settings¡¨ may be ok, but without knowing what they are?????????????

So how did you capture the video file, what camera type did you use?
What are the properties of your video files?

This will identify 4:3 or 16:9 for instance

Lets assume you used a Mini-DV type camera and captured via firewire using the DV option
(Notice I say DV not DVD.)

As well as reading the info posted earlier please read My Quick Guide for DV-Avi
If you have captured direct to Mpeg2 then read the Quick Guide for Mpeg.
There just a list of the process that I use, seems to work out ok.

Although Video Studio provides us with many templates, understanding the make-up of these is essential. But first we need to know what type files you are using?

Hope this helps

I imported MOD files from an SD Flash card (from my Canon FS100 video camera) which it appears to me that it converted that to MPEG files when it imported them, and when I look at what kind of file the video is now (looking at the Create Video File - Same as Project Settings) it is showing it as an MPEG file.
I don't have enough information on these instructions to know whether I can just burn it to a DVD from here in that format, or if I need to create a video file first, and then if I should save it in that same format or if I need to use a movie template that is DVD - and then which of those to select - too many unknowns and choices to know how to move forward.
Any instruction and advice you can give on this subject I would appreciate!
Thanks,
Suz

Hi Suz

I think your camera creates Mpeg files???????
Need to know the properties of these files.

From File Preferences-select- Show messages when inserting First Video¡K¡K¡K

Start a new project
Insert a video file to the timeline
Do you get an info window requesting a change to the project properties?
If yes, select details and copy / paste the info in the right hand panel to this forum.
Select yes/ok

If not then right click the clip in the timeline and select properties.
What are they?

I suspect you should be able to burn a DVD from the imported files.
Assuming you do not want to edit the video.

Start a new project ( empty timeline)
Share Create Disc ( the burner module will open)
Add your Video files
