cannot import video from dvd

Post by ppanis »

I just made a fresh dvd using the DV to DVD wizard successfully, means I can play/watch it, although there is not title to it... I would like to put all my mini-dv tapes movies on DVD so that I was thinking to still be able to edit my home movies at a later date and I can use my video-tapes again as I am going on vacation tomorrow !
The problem is that when I go to "capture" and press import from DVD or folder, it does a "DVD parse initialization", opens the "DVD import" window, with this info: Label DVD_080528, Title 0, Chapter 0 (I didn't see any option to put a title when I used the DV to DVD wizard making my dvd)... but then I can watch my movie when I press the Play button but the "import" button does not show as enlighted, so that I cannot even use it and consequently apparently I can't import my movie from my DVD :-(

A response ASAP would be greatly appreciated, as again, I'm leaving tomorrow, just giving a shot, thanks !...

Beside the Title and Chapters are little boxes that need to have check-marks placed in them. Once you have selected which titles and chapters you want to import the import button will be activated..;)

I've never used the DV-DVD wizard, so I don't know where you would be able to edit or place a title..

Did you put a check in the box next to Title 0 or Chapter 0. You have to select it to import it.

If you intend to edit this footage that you are transferring to DVD, keep in mind that they will be MPEG-2 files, which are lossy, and some people have problems editing them.

What you'd be better off doing is buying some new mini-dv tapes for your vacation, and keeping the mini-dv tapes you have now for later capture/editing. That way you will be editing in dv-avi format, which is the best and easiest way to go.

I just reviewed the User Manual, and somewhere during the process of DV-DVD wizard there is an Edit Title button, or tab, which is used to edit the theme's text titles.

Ron, I think the OP might be confused because it said "Title 0, Chapter 0".

Ppanis, that's just the default numbering system that VS gives for the titles and chapters when importing DVDs. It does not necessarily mean you have not named any titles or chapters.

ok, I think I will rather import and edit in the editing part of ulead. which brings me to another question please:
I will capture directly from my mini-dv tape playing on my digital camcorder at first, then do some editing and then share, so when I want to afterwards burn a fresh dvd on my computer, which choice I must take exactly (video file, Disc, DV 4:3, NTSC ... etc..) ? Thanks again !
